Hi guys,

Have any of you had any experience with Lister Horsfall Jewellers in Halifax, UK? They are an approved Breitling AD (on the B'ling website) but I was just wondering if they actually send the watches back to Breitling UK for services or whether they carry out the work on their premises. Any advice/help would be really appreciated.

If I am not supposed to ask this kind of question here please forgive me and let me know :? .

As they're an approved AD I think they will be duty-bound to let you know the truth, so my advice would be to give them a quick ring and just ask them.

Additionally it's worth remembering that irrespective of what they say, you can obviously insist that they send your watch to BUK in the event of issues, or alternatively you can always send it to BUK direct yourself. Warranty work will always be honoured by BUK (assuming the watch is bought from an AD and in-date obviously!) whether you send it in via an AD or direct.

Hi Driver8,

Many thanks for your reply and advice. Lister Horsfall aren't far from me and so I will pop in and see them soon. I will probably get the watch sent away after Xmas now (I just hope the battery lasts that long as the watch is 5 years old (nearly 4 on my wrist)). Thanks again.

Just a quick update,

I went in to Lister Horsfall's in Halifax today and made my enquiries.

They do send the watches off to Breitling for services. They did mention that their watchmaker was an experienced former senior watch servicer at Breitling who is more than capable of carrying out Breitling work on site. If you insist on it going back to Breitling though, they will honour that. I was informed that Breitling have now renamed their services - they now carry out Basic Services (the watch is normally currently away for around 3 weeks) and the Full Service (currently away for around 6 - 8 weeks). I was also told that the Basic Service will normally cost around £115 - £130 - of course if Breitling inspect the watch and find it needs more doing to it then that will raise the costs. I was quite impressed and will probably take my watch in after Xmas - I will update with how things go then.

I took my Airwolf in to Lister Horsfall's on the 3rd January 2012 and asked them to send it off to BUK. The battery EOL was showing that it needed a replacement battery. I also asked if it was possible to get the skeleton hand replaced for the later Airwolf solid hands.

After some confusion about the readiness of the watch at BUK, the watch did eventually come back a week later than Lister Horsfall's had informed me (they had referred to their computer link direct with BUK which at first said the watch was due to be sent out but on phoning BUK, it was still being tested - so it arrived a week later).

The watch has come back nicely cleaned and with new hands which is great - what did surprise me is that BUK only felt that a Quartz Maintenance service was required (on a watch that is 5 years old). I know that BUK normally say that an Overhaul Service is required between 5 - 7 years. I will wait for the battery to expire again before sending it back to BUK though.

Oh, another thing. I am pretty sure that I was charged for the change of hands as the Quartz Maintenance Service cost £170 instead of the £110 - £130 estimated cost for a basic service told to me by Lister Horsfall's.

So, on the whole I am reasonably pleased with Lister Horsfall's service but I think there may be quite a mark up for the pleasure. Andrew Michael's will be on my priority list for the next service when it is due (the only reason I didn't choose AM this time was the geography and logistics).

Hands are always charged as extra. Costs would have been the same if you had sent it directly to BUK.

I don't understand why anyone would use an AD to essentially just act as a middle man between you and Breitling UK and usually charge you extra for the privilege? Just send the watch directly to Breitling packaged and via Spec del, tell them what you want done and await the return of your watch directly (3-10 weeks depending on which of the two services you have asked for) simples :)
