I have two multiple and 2 single winders. All marketed and made by the same company. Over the years I read numerous discussions regarding the pro and con of using winders. I have automatic winding watches which will wind either direction, others one way or the other. These have been responses from companies to inquires from major watch magazine writers. It would seem that all present valid arguments for which ever direction(s) their movement rotor rotates. One little bit of gem was that not all winders are capable of providing the 'force' or 'energy' to keep certain watches wound. I don't propose to mention any brand names of winders or watches which simply need to be wound on the wrist. I throw this out just to alert people who wonder why when they put their watch on "X" winder the winder hasn't done the job. As with watches, not all winders are the same. |

Very true. As we've said before, watch winders (while being very useful) can be a total minefield to the average buyer. As you rightly said, not all winders are equal, but a lot also depends on the efficiency of the winding mechanism in the watch - again, not all are equal. The weight of the watch can also have an impact as some cheaper winders struggle with the mass of something like an SA on the bracelet. In terms of finding something that works, I personally really like the gravity driven models made by the likes of Sparta as they swing with watch in a similar way to when it's actually on the wrist. It's about as close to natural movement as you can get. |
