I know that Long's in Mass doesn't keep straps in stock. I too was surprised that they wouldn't keep a few in stock. I want to get a strap for my Navi, but would like to be able to see different colors or leather vs croc in person, to see what I like best.

There seem to be two schools of thought - always's have some to meet the need or accept that there are too many choices / combos / sizes and hope that you can swap one out from new stock watches and then order to replace.

To me, although the costs of carrying stock are fairly high, it's shameful not to have stock. That said, I use ADs in Toronot which is where the distributor keeps stock for all of Canada so I never have to wait anyway.

i figured the cost of stocking them is high, but they couldnt even swap from a watch they had. they had 1 ocean racer on a piece and it was a 24 not a 22 like i needed. just wierd i guess. when i went in for a basic black and gold calf they didnt have them either and my blue diver pro. the problem is there the only AD in the area. i guess i will have to live with waiting a week every time i need something from them.

The last time I was at my AD I was also quite surprised with the lack of choices they had for leather straps. The gentleman helping me said that they never have that much stock and usually order any special request since it only takes a few days. I would much rather prefer to see all the different colors in person to help make my decision. As a matter of fact, I have yet to buy a strap because I keep hoping that the next time I stop in they might have some other straps to sample?

I had the same thing, when I wanted an OR for my Steelfish last year. I took almost 3 months to get it. In the end it was worth it, though. I actually still have the OR, sold my Steelfish with the PRO II that was on it originally. Which OR did you order - the brushed or the polished? "Are you going to have it PVD'd?
Cheers,
Carl

carl, i believe its polished because the guy said it will look bad with the polished deployant, and he said thats the only way it comes? now with you saying its possible to buy a brushed one i might have to call tommorow and tell him to forget it and call george and have him get me one. and if i get a brushed one i will have it PVD'd since the brushed one will pvd better. so i hopw to see what one he actuall ordered me.

I know that I have seen postints here that mention the brushed OR. I think there was someone who actually posted a pic of one. Also, the polished one can be brushed, my AD offered to do it for me.
From what you said before, your AD doesn't sound very helpful. I would definitely cancel the order with him, and give George a call. I'm sorry that you don't have a more helpful AD in Buffalo. I would offer to sell you mine, but if I sell the Seawolf I kind of plan to sell it with the OR.
Here is a link to one of the posts where it mentions the availability of the brushed OR:

GENERALLY, straps are not kept in stock. I do have a few brown/black croc and calfs in stock (since these colors are the most common), generally try to keep a black 22mm diver pro too. The rest are special order. I mean there are not many people coming in wanting to order a blue croc or green leather, so it sits in stock as a museum piece. At most AD's, including the one I work for, you would generally be able to get a full refund on a strap if, when comes in, you are not satisfied with it. Rof is correct, there are just too many choices, and most basics are kept in stock. Also, I generally would offer to swap a strap from one watch to another to a customer if that is the combination they would rather have and not wanting to wait.

i see so its not uncommon. i guess i feel alittle better about it then. the problem is that the city doesnt have a high demand for breitlings. i dont think.

I certainly wouldn't expect an AD to have the whole line of various straps in stock, but rather as krlyuzh said, have a few of the common ones in stock. Problem is, the AD's in Boston (I haven't checked Torneau yet) don't keep ANY in stock. Black/brown calf is a special order. That's what surprises me.

an OR is a pretty common strap i think, you would think they would hve them in stock or even on 1 watch on display.

Did you ever get around to giving George a call? How about the AD, is the order still active?
It took forever for mine to arrive last summer.
Why don't you take a drive up to Toronto, and see what the AD's have there. It is a huge city, so there must be at least one that you could pick up there. A lot of guys on this forum are from Toronto, so they could probably steer you in the right direction.

i called george on friday but he had the day off. the order is still active in buffalo. i could drive to toronto but with a day off a month it should be spent with the family, if i chose to drive to TO i would be changing my married post to the divorce post. i will wait for georges call back or hope thr strap comes in here.

I always have the basic straps on stock. As customers usually want the watches with a different strap/bracelet, than I have on display, I have to have most. Usually we change it for about 50% of the Breitling watches, we sell.

I don't have all the variants of croco or lizard straps on stock, but normaly all kinds of calf, steel and diver pros.
