As promised Romain Jerome announced the price of their Moon Rider during Basel - US$14,500. ![]() That's a fairly chunky lift from the Titanic series, and not cheap for a non precious metal that is being produced in a production run of almost 2,000. However, with no Breitlings appealing, I was considering it. I heard from the AD that I have been dealing with - they are "offering it for list price" - how generous, and are expecting their first shipment of 8 - 10 pieces by October / November. They made a point of telling me that would be the biggest shipment of any US dealer as they were RJ's biggest US AD. I don't know if they are trying to convince me that this piece is going to be impossible to obtain, they seem to have forgotten that there will be 1,969 of each variation. Anyway, if I want to have one of these pieces at the end of the year for 'only' list price, then they want a deposit from me now of US$10,000. My mind is now officially blown! |

Cool looking watch Roff, but honestly if I was going to spend $14,500 on a non precious metal watch it would be on a Blancpain Fifty Fathoms. Large size like Breitling, better movements, iconic design, and also limited production. Just food for thought. I like the Romain Jerome, but I wouldn't shell out $10,000 for a deposit. I mean, what if something else comes along in the mean time that catches your fancy? Or a once in a lifetime oppurtunity for something else at an awesome price? Or if you need access to that money for an emergency? |

lol.. they might as well make you pay for the whole watch. A few thousand is quite a few watches. Coupled with the current economic state, and the 5 figure price tag, I have a feeling they wont be as "hot" as the dealer is making them out to be. |

You can get new Titanic series for less than list on eBay so the exclusivity isn't what RJ would like to think. This will be a multi-year release and I'm sure they'll release them slowly, but it is silly. Especially as RJ don't release them in sequential serial number order - the serials are random so it's not like you get a lower number if you buy early. It's a little silly if you ask me, and might well cost them a sale - with the current exchange rate I could buy at least two other watches that I have my eye on for the deposit alone. |

I've looked at a few JLCs, just never really decided which one to go for. I also have a deposit on the Zenith Chronomaster XXT Open Grande Date - just got po'd when they put Canadian prices up 25%. |

If you want something big theyve got the Master Compressor Extreme World..45-46mm I think... That thing is sick. Ive been looking at a lot of JLC recently. I want one as well but still havent narrowed it down. |

They know the watch will appreciate greatly... "The Moon Dust-DNA watches will be offered at the minimum price of 15,000 dollars, but the price may reach half a million dollars! The collection will be unveiled to customers at Baselworld 2009." http://watches.infoniac.com/romain-jero ... -dust.html Roff, I say you should get it...prices may reach half a mill!!! who really knows. Personally, I'm waiting for the watch with real bits of panther so you know it's good or something really rare, like bits of Michael Jackson's real nose...wait he does the moonwalk! ![]() Seriously, who authenticates the provenance of these materials? Personally I'd rather have an actual speck of moondust in a jar rather then having some incorporated into anything. |

I absolutely love this watch and If I had that kind of money I would have it in a heartbeat at list and pay the deposit. Ever since seeing Neil Armstrong take that step I have been fixated with outerspace, to have a peice of the moon on my wrist, better than any gold of diamonds and worth more! I was a little quesy about the titanic it being a grave but this really is outstanding, oh for a lottery win! |

What's the movement in these RJ's? I'm guessing a good old ETA base as I suppose they are too small an operation for any in-house goodness? |

Just did some research and the titanic has a movement by this company http://www.lajouxperret.ch/ It looks like they use ETA movements, Non parlais France though so I could not be sure! I think the turbillion might be in house though! here is a link to a flee bay sale of the titanic where it gives the movement as la joux! http://cgi.ebay.com/New-ROMAIN-JEROME-T ... 9013r23439 |

A few points........ The half million dollar watches are the LE of 9 tourbillons, these 'normal' pieces will not appreciate in value. The moon / Apollo / Soyuz / ISS stuff is certified by an independent body and you get the paperwork - but to me that's not the reason to buy. Tourbillons are not in house, they are supplied by BNB Concepts Regular movements are 23 jewel Concepto / Jacquet movements - not sure what the base for those is. |

OK, now I'm even more annoyed. I just found out what the 'real' list price is - $12,900. So not only did they want a $10K deposit, they lied about the list price. Guess who won't be getting my business!! Of course now that I know I can get it for $12,900 and 25% down............ |
