Post subject:  Difference between IWC Calibres

Not really one for the Breitling forum, but does anyone know what the difference between the IWC calibre 51111 in the BP and the 51113 in the BI? They both look exactly the same in terms of design and functionality, so I was wondering if anyone knows what the difference is?

Frequency, maybe? Just a guess.

No they're both 3 Hz movements.

Does the BI have the Glucydur Beryllium balance that the BP has?

Or is the decoration different between them?

Here you go, from one of the most knowlegible IWC experts around:

Both calibres are at 21'600 beats. The only difference is that the Big Pilot has an antimagnatic cage and the Big Inge has not. Therefore it seems that the Big Pilot has a bit longer "axes" for the hands. The difference is the same as for the 80110 for the Inge Automatic (old) or Mission Earth (new), that have an antimagnetic cage, and the VC Inge with the 80111 that has not such a cage.

 Great stuff Altair. I guess that makes sense because if you ever needed a new movement, the 51113 wouldn't allow the hands to be fitted if it was put in the BP case, and the hands would be too far off the dial if the 51111 was put in the BI case.

Great stuff, and saved me a phone call to IWC!
