The one and only, the Royal Oak Offshore Montoya.

Everything about that watch is perfect, the multi piece case, the contrast between polished and brushed surfaces, the three dimensional dial with the sunken and raised accents, the hand finishing, and that amazing CERAMIC carbon fiber bezel. Just an amazing design that I do not think anyone can rival, if you think that picture looks good, you should see it in person. I did and I just could not stop staring at it, too bad that it was a very limited edition and long sold out. Now it has doubled in price and is going for a measely 90,000 USD. Obsene.

Now a more down to earth option is the very nice Royal Oak Offshore Themes, a truely awesome watch with a lot of history, excellent craftmanship (different class) and a truely excellent in house chrono movement. This is my ultimate (realistic) grail:

As many of you know, I have always said Breitling are on a different scale when it coems to straps, bracelets, design, and value. I still think they are, in their price range.

But when it comes to the nicest I have seen, it is this marvelous beast:

Just look at that, what a watch! And that hornback is unsurpassed.

They also come with the best made bracelet I have ever seen:

The only problem with this watch is that it is priced at a very annoying price range, not so high that I can simply label it as ridiculous and forget about it (such as the Montoya) nor can I just go ahead and pick it up. Maybe in 2010, it will probably eat up the entire watch AND travel gudgets, but it would be so worth it.

The APROO is a lovely piece. No arguments there mate.

Surely you could easily pick this up with the sale of 2-3 current pieces in your collection.

APROO Black Themes come up all the time on TZ for $12-14k.

The ROO is definitely close to the top of the tree for me too. I tried on a black-dial Themes once - loved how it looked on my wrist, didn't love the price tag of more than $30k Australian though. Maybe I'll have a second-hand one, one day...

The LE the for the Singapore F1 GP looked like a stunning watch too, judging from pictures.

Mate I would never buy an APROO in Australia. $30K.. what bull.

$12500 USD... (at today's exchange rate that's $19000 AUD)

Go for it Altair. 233 + APROO + 6.75.. you dont need any other piece.

Couldn't agree more, this definitely isn't the place to buy a watch like that.

Altair, I think Jay's right - it's just another step beyond the Big Inge :poke:

Mate the second hand market is there for the taking right now.

You could easily take that APROO for under $12k USD.

I do like some of the APs, but the prices really are very high for what you actually get - there are definitely a lot of better bang for the buck watches.

I agree, although I'd go a bit further and say that there aren't many AP's that do anything for me.

That is a very nice piece. Out of my range but I can dream.

Thanks Altair for giving me yet another watch to add to my already long wish list :P

Would the APROO be comparable to the PAM 233, and IWC Big Pilot as far as being a historic watch with a cult following?

Is it me our does the Hublot Big Bang share a lot of the same styling characteristics of the AP Royal Oak Offshore?

I suppose value is a personal sense, its all about what we value most. The watch is THE most SS chrono with no additional complications, but it also has the best finish, and retains its value very well.

The Hublot, and other watches, are following the Royal Oak design theme. Shame since Hublot make excellent watches, but no points for originality.

I can't say the AP ROO is comparable to the Big Pilot as far as history is concerned, but certinely a bigger cult following.
