Just some curiosity here by me and another thing that is personal preference, but does anyone else pay attention to the postion that others wear their watches? What I mean is where exactly do you prefer to wear your watch on your wrist? I noticed several folks who wear their watch on the "hand-side" of their wrist bone, with the crown basically touching the back of their hand when their wrist is bent upward (Altair, thanks in advance, I "borrowed" this picture from one of your posts).

I wear my watches on the "arm-side" of my wrist bone, basically higher up on the arm (my wrist, sorry not real focused but you get the idea).

I guess I had never noticed this on others before until I was looking at the Gallery and noticed the difference.

Curious to see where most people on here prefer to wear their watch??? As I said, this is a persan preference thing for sure, and it is probably related to how tight you wear your watch as well, which I know has been discussed previously.

Anyway, just a poll question for you all...

I guess I can't really answer the poll, because my answer is both.

When I put it on it's on the arm side, but it slips up and down during wear, so it depends on how I'm moving.

I used to wear my watches tighter and that would always be on the arm side, but I've recently been losing some weight and haven't felt the need to tighten the straps / bracelets - not a conscious thing, just sort of happened.

Roff,

You bring up a good point. I hadn't really thought about the fact that some folks wear their watch loose so it can move over the wrist bone. I wear my watch pretty tight so it stays in place. Interesting point though...guess I should have taken that into consideration.

On the 'arm side' of my wrist bone, everytime. Keep it tight too, the only movement I want is inside the watch! :mrgreen:

This an interesting topic. In typical egocentric fashion, I had always assumed that everyone wears watches mostly like I do (arm-side of the wrist bone). But preliminary results show that it's really about 50/50! I don't think there is enough room between my wrist bone and my hand to fit a watch...I wonder if that is something that differs between individuals?

One thing I have noticed in my watch-wearing preference that puzzles me is that the lighter the watch, the tighter I want to make it on my wrist. One would think the opposite to be true: the heavier the watch the more tightly you would want it anchored. I have a little Casio digital watch that weighs almost nothing, and I have always habitually tightened the strap to the point where other people actually notice and tell me, "Don't you think your strap is too tight?". But with my Colt and Steelfish, I wear them looser...just to the point where they still don't move around, but only just barely. It makes them so comfortable that I prefer heavier watches for this reason. Hmmm...sounds like another survey: "How tight to you wear your watch?"

I have noticed that same effect with rings: the heaver the ring the looser I will tolerate it on my finger, and the more comfortable it is. My poor wife had to get me a nice thick, heavy (and therefore more expensive) wedding ring before I would wear it. :thumbsup:

"Arm-side" EVERY time for me. If a watch is "hand-side" i.e. over the wrist joint itself, it drives me insane! I like my watches to not move at all and wearing them arm-side means I quickly forget they're there. It's also pretty handy for wearing my Big Pilot as the crown would definitely dig in the back of your hand if you were to wear it hand-side.

I wear my watches loose and let them fall where they may.

Does anybody find their watches fitting differently at certain times of year, or day? I find my Tag fits the loosest in the morning, and in the fall. I'm sure it has something to do with blood preasure and the swelling of skin.

Yes, your wrist will expand and contract slightly depending on the temperature, etc. Also a watch may feel looser when you first put it on as it won't have the sweat/stickiness that you get after wearing a watch all day. That slight stickiness helps to keep your watch in place later in the day! :)

Lately, my watches are much much looser when I go home from work in the evening. I sit in front of a computer most of the day, and my office gets quite cold in the evenings this time of year. It is amazing how much my wrist shrinks under these conditions.

Normally, I can just barely fit the tip of my pinky in between my bracelet and my wrist, and it takes a bit of wriggling to do it. To me this is the optimal fit: I can still slide the watch around if I really want to, but there is enough grip so that when my body heats up the watch, it "sticks" to my arm (that slight stickiness that Driver8 mentions).

When I leave work, however, I can easily slide my entire thumb underneath my bracelet, with room to spare! I actually walk to my car with my left arm half-raised to keep the watch from sliding around.

I often find myself pushing it back down towards my hand if it has slipped up my arm.

Same here, that's why I wear them a bit loose.

So again, Thumb side is the radius, small finger side is the ulna. You can feel the styloids of each (unless you are a huge fat Tennessean -- which I find all too frequently) here is a pic for education.

BTW, I answered up the forearm a bit, but they slide back and forth a little so I do not create a sweat constillation under the bracelet. Got to let the skin breathe!
