Post subject:  Need help in making a decision about what watch to buy

After one week search I decided I like two watches, much more then others.
1. http://authenticwatches.com/omega-seama ... 80-00.html
2. http://www.interwatches.com/jaeger-leco ... 68p-p25916

I do like the Omega a lot, but I think that Omega is maybe too common while Jaeger LeCoultre is more special and I think Jaeger LeCoultre is a few steps above Omega as a brand (right or wrong?).

Another problem, can the above model of Jaeger LeCoultre be considered a sport watch? (please note that is the Stainless Steel version with rubber band)
I'm in my late 20's and I usually dress sport, like fashion jeans and t-shits, and I want to make sure that the watch is not too elegant.

This would be my first luxury watch(because Tissot doesn't count) and I'm sure you guys know more about watches then me and that's why I'm asking for your "expert" advice in making this decision.

I would go for the Omega if I were you but the titanium version or if you have JLC sort of money then why not

There was a thread a while ago about the forum's opinion and experiece with JLC if you care to find it. Also some of the more expert members here can give you a run down on in-house movements and the more technical aspects of the two watches.

My opinion is there's no doubt that JLC is more "specialised" than Omega, if want of a better term and thus more expensive. If you have the funds to go for a JLC you cannot go wrong as they are quality pieces. However there is nothing wrong with Omega; AD's have confirmed that they are not as well made as Breitling etc but they are still good pieces. Certainly more common than JLC I'm sure you'll find but it depends on what you're wearing the watch for and again how much you want to spend :D

A friend actually has the same watch, a seamaster chrono and has never had a problem with it!

The JLC looks sporty to me

Good luck!

If you can afford them, JLC are absolutely superb watches.

With the exception of Breitling, JLC are one of 4 other manufacturers that I personally have on my "must own list".

As others have said, there's nothing wrong with Omega but JLC is definitely a class above.

It's a no brainer for me - JLC, although it is a bit of an unfair comparison given price points of the brands.

The more I research the more I like JLC and yes it seems its not too elegant for me, I also confirmed with one AD and one non authorized dealer and they also told me that this model of JLC is not too elegant to be worn with jeans but it can be worn with a suit as well (since I never wear a suit I just wanted to make sure I won't look ridiculous wearing jeans and t-shit and a JLC on my hand).
Thank you guys for the comments. That was really helpful in making my decision. Now I just have to grow some balls and make the final step.

Seem like two totally different watches to compare...Personally the Omega is more "my" taste, but this is a watch for you. The JLC appears more dressy to me due to the shape more than anything.
Choose what "speaks" to you.
Enjoy!

Can anyone tell me more about the Seamaster(ref#2225.80.00)?
I'm particularly interested in knowing who is making the mechanism for these pieces.
Any other information about this watch is welcomed as I'm contemplating buying it.

later edit: I've found the information already :) its Valjoux.

that would be correct. its a base eta 7750. the valjoux name was dropped. I say base, because besides the ebauche, the rest is done by omega. all within the swatch group. but when comparing these 2, a better one would be the omega hour vision, caliber 8500, a completly inhouse movement from omega. the case is sapphire. the seamaster is accurate to within 2 seconds a day. can be dressed up with a strap or leave it on the bracelet. I have the black version.

Thank you yamahaki for the reply and for the picture.
This is a nice watch indeed and I personally like its design better then the new one (Planet Ocean).
The only thing that worries me is if the model is not too old. I mean this Bond is around since like 1993 which makes it 16 year old already and it will probably be discontinued soon. Any thoughts?
