And told me that he has a Big Pilot and a Big Inge I can compare. I got there last night and had decided long ago that I would choose one or the other. However as soon as he took out those two fine specimens I was speechless  what marvelous watches!

I put on the big pilot and it looked GREAT, I simply can't describe how amazing this watch looks in person. The quality is really up there, made my Omega PO that I had on at the time seem like a toy next to it  Jaeger teritory definately. And the vintage pilot design is perfect.

Due to the increased height of this Pilot model the crown does not dig in as deep as I thought it would, it was not uncomfortable per se but certinely you would know it is there. Much like the Bentley 6.75 to me.

Now it was Big Inge time. As soon as I had it on my wrist it felt so RIGHT. The size and design with the integrated crown felt perfect and looked amazing! Just as well built as the BP, the finish was excellent. WOW! Instant love! As much as I loved the BP and HAD to get one one of these days the Inge was a more pressing desire. As i took it off and looked at the display back with that huge decorated movement and considered the fact that the watch would look great with either a suit or jeans, it was a no brainer for me.

I told him that I wanted the first Inge he had for sale (all the ones he had were reserved) I was afraid he would say something like three months like Driver got but thankfully he should have one in a couple of days for me!!! :D

Congratulations Altair!!! Fantastic too that the wait will likely be short.

That will be me in a few years time I hope although my preference is the BP (jealous of D8)

I must say that I thought I would get the BP as well, but once I saw the Inge it just clicked for me.

That said, the BP is a truely great watch as well. And I am afraid Driver's prediction of me owning both eventualy has become a sure thing once I can afford another IWC (damn they are expensive but worth every penny)

Sorry, what is a Big Inge? I have seen the big Pilot in adds, does it come off like the XXL Railmaster? I have the IWC Pilot Chrono one of my favorites, the simplicity of the design and the quality are outstanding. Can't wait to see your photos of your new watch.

Big Ingenieur -

45.5mm, hence bigger than the standard Ingenieur

Congrats Altair, you're showing the way again. 8)
Looking forward to seeing the wrist shots, I've never seen the BI on a wrist.

Many congrats Altair! :D It looks like you're going to beat me to IWC ownership by some margin if your AD can get a BI for you in a couple of days.

I totally agree with you that they are they are amazingly well built pieces. I've not seen the BI in the flesh - just the limited edition "standard-size" version with the ceramic bezel - but I bet it's superb. After all, the BI and BP are identical in lots of ways and at pretty much the same price point. I bet that DB is brilliant though!

It's funny but I'm kind of like you in terms of liking them both but one just edges it - although for me it's the BP, while for you it's the BI.

Great piece Altair, and we DEFINITELY need pics!

Thanks guys, I just can't tell you how excited I am about this purchase!! I think I am crossing over to technical obsession, the IWC BI was the last thing on my mind before I went to bed and the first thing to pop in there this morning   I was actually thinking I should get this under control, but I somehow managed to convince myself that since I did not get the BP along with it, I was still in control :poke:

Will definately post pics as soon as he gets it, he couldnt give me a date because clearing customs could take a while. But hopefully within the week!

You know thats a good point, they do have a lot in common yet are very different. Quite strange, a bit liek Panerai to me. A PAM 90 has a lot in common with, say a PAM 111 but is a completely different watch to me.

The Portuguese is an amazing piece, especially the silver with blued hands. But it is too much of a dress watch for me to aquire right now, as I am also looking at some dressy Jaeger pieces. Eventually though I think the perfect IWC collection would comprise of the BP,BI , and a Portuguese.
