Firstly, I tried on a Ferrari Panerai today (a Scuderia Chronograph FER00008)...... and was actually VERY pleasantly surprised! I'm still not a huge fan of the Ferrari logo on the dial (for some reason the association never works for me in the same way that Breitling and Bentley does), but it was actually a very nice piece. Very well built, with a superb strap - black calf on the outside and yellow/gold croco on the INSIDE! I'm not into it enough to buy one, BUT a "normal" Panerai will be part of my collection this year.

Secondly I managed to try on an IWC Top Gun ceramic today. Unfortunately it was only the standard 44mm chronograph instead of the 46mm Doppel Chrono, but it is still an awesome piece. It looks amazing, and it's much heavier than I expected too, as I thought the ceramic would be quite light.

And lastly, (and most importantly for me!) I put my name down for an IWC Big Pilot today! :woohoo: :D Looks like it'll be a minimum of 3 months wait though. Never mind.... good things come to those who wait!

Wow!!!

That's exceptionally good news for you Driver8 - congratulations.

It's going to be a tough 3 month wait - especially with all of the in house DB LE Breitlings that will be announced at the end of March :P

One of my friends has a Panerai Ferrari (Cant remember which model number) and he offered to sell it to me at a very reasonable price but I just cannot justify it. I would rather have a regular Pan. I agree there is something that doesnt mesh between Pan and Ferrari...Maybe it's just because we are Breitling sick in the head

Actually cool story how he got that watch too....His dad who had actually just purcahsed a Ferrari wanted the watch so his step mother went to to Off. Pan on Rodeo Drive (They live in LA) and politely asked them if they had one. They all kinda laughed at her (this is when they first came out) and she was like ok dumb question I guess. They told her they were going to be so hard to come by in the USA that they might only get one or two in and even Tourneau threatened to not carry Pan anymore if they didnt get any in. So after they chuckled at her they told her they great appreciated her not yelling at them for not having one in because in the last week people from Colin Ferrel (however you spell it) to Paris Hilton had been coming in and yelling and swearing at them because they didnt have one in and had to be put on a wait list. So they told her for being so understanding she would go to the top of the list for it. Three days later she got a call that it was in and went and got it for my buddies dad. One year later he gave it to my buddy for his good gpa in college who is not suppose to sell it....even though he offered it to me and only me, just because he's saving for a Patek.

Thanks a lot guys!

It's a lot of cash (and they've just gone up too  ), but it's also a heck of a lot of watch too, so I'm really pleased to have one on order now. :D

@GZGym1 - cool story about the Ferrari Pannies! The rarity factor really ramps up the appeal (the one I tried today was one of an edition of 700), but I just can't get past the Ferrari logo on the dial. It's like a logo on a kids watch to me..... and it doesn't even say Panerai on there either! It's a shame because it's got a lot going for it otherwise. The case is a mix of both Luminor and Radiomir and the "twist and lock" crown is very cool too. Great attention to detail all over it.......... just a shame about that logo! :?

@Roff - yeah if there's a nice sized in-house Breitling at Baselworld, I'll need to add that too the list too!

@1952 - congrats on the PO order today! Hope that arrives a bit faster than my Big Pilot is due!

Nice, D8! The big pilot is a good choice. Have you tried one on?

Yeah, I tried it on a month or two ago, so I knew right then that I wanted one. Just been working out the funds!

Congrats Driver, that is good news. Always good to see another IWC around here :D . The BP is awesome, somehow I don't think you're going to regret it.

Congratulations Driver8. A few of us out here have been discussing IWC's lately and how they would make a great addition to anyone's collection. The Big Pilot's watch is a beauty!!

If you're anything like me you'll struggle with the wait  but the anticipation will make it well worth it in the end.

Enjoy!

Very cool, congrats on making the IWC jump! I have a BP on order as well as a Big Inge, told my AD I would be getting one or the other as soon as I try them both on at the same time.

Completely agree on the PAM FER models, very well built and excellent designs, but the Ferrari associations ruins them for me.
