I was wondering what everyones thoughts were on the Tag Heuer Formula One. I currently Own a Superocean, but I am considering buying a Formula One for my Brother who just graduated College as a sort of starter luxury watch. I dont have much experience with the Tag Watches, and I have only ever owned Breitlings, so I'm a little in the Dark about the Formula One Series. Any help would be appreciated.

I think a nice started luxury watch would be a Tissot or an Oris I own both and honestly the Tissot is a nice everyday watch and the Oris is built like a tank for the price. I have the TT1 Diver on the Bracelet I think I paid 1,250 at the time Im not sure if that compares with the Formula One price but lemme know what you think..

I had a red Formula One as a casual/everyday beater watch for a while. I quite liked the design of the dial, even though it was a bit plasticky, but the bracelet never grew on me, it was too flimsy. I sold it fairly quickly.

If you're looking for an entry level Tag (without commenting either way on them!), I think you get quite a bit more for your money with the quartz Aquaracer series. Not sure if that fits your budget though.

GZGym1 makes a great suggestion with Oris. Some of their models (eg the less expensive diver models) are incredible value.

Personally (and I apologise to anyone who owns one), but I can't stand Tag Formula 1. I'm not a fan of Tag in general, but the F1 is the worst of the lot IMO.

A mate of mine had one and it always looks like a kid's watch to me : a kind of costly Swatch! As Otto rightly said, it's a lump of plastic with a flimsy bracelet. I've personally owned two Tags - an auto Aquagraph, and a quartz Aquaracer - and I grew out of them very quickly..... and they're both "proper" metal models. I think the Formula 1 would be a million times worse.

I also totally agree with the other guys on their alternative choices. In that price range, Oris would be choice ANY day of the week : they're all automatic and are very nicely built. Sure, they're not as well known as Tag on the street, but they're all the better for that in my opinion. Tag has a bit of a "wide-boy", used car saleman image in this country.

Not a Tag fan in the least, and the Formula 1s are the one of the worst watches I can think of, along side the Corum bubbles and blinged out Casios :poke:

As the guys said, Oris provides allot more bang for your buck.

A blinged Casio? What's next a tourbillon Swatch?

I also advise against the F1. Its cheap-feeling, nasty and overpriced.
People only buy it because it bears the TAG name.

Oris are excellent value for money IMO.

Another vote for Oris here, it's amazing value. Tags do nothing for me I'm afraid.

Tag F1 was my very first good watch, got it when I was 19....quite some time ago. A good watch for that age but not an adults watch at all.

Wasn't sure which one it was so I googled it - I think it looks cheap and nasty. I'm sure there are 'nicer' watches out there.

If you're giving out watches, can I be your brother too???

:)

personally i like them (i do have one) but I especially like some of the newer larger diameter versions available. they are very distinguishable and to me they exude what TAG are all about- contemporary race-timing professionals. Whenever I see someone wearing one (and I do see a few) it shouts out that they aren't watch enthusiasts but still care about having a nice piece.

Yes, compared to breitlings they are light, a bit flimsy and the bracelet seems to be made of hollow metal but for a young guy its the perfect starter watch. On the other hand,if you want to splash a little more cash and get something thats a certified classic I would get a second hand Monaco.

Thanks for the honest replies. I think I'm going to check out what Oris has to offer before I make a decision.

OK, I have to take issue with that - my wife wears an Oris Artelier Skeleton - think that wants to be everyone else????? (crap photo even by my standards)

AGREED ROFF! Also how does tissot want to look like everyone else? Who else has something out like the T-Touch models?
