I'm really becoming taken with these lately - site is here - http://www.brior.de/cm/index.php?option ... =1&lang=en and the collection is here - http://www.brior.de/cm/index.php?option ... 27&lang=en Much of the site beyond the front page is in German, but I love the concept - most have wooden watch cases. I'm not sure how practical they would be for obvious reasons, and they are small by modern standards - 38 - 40mm generally, but the prices are very reasonable - $1,400 - $4,000 or so. Not sure I would ever buy one because of the practicality angle, but I do admire the willingness to do something different in these days of super big, super sophisticated cases. And some of the designs are really nice in my opinion. |

Hmmmmmmm........ "interesting".  I must confess they're not really yanking my chain too much.... and not just because of their fairly diminutive proportions. Just not really my style. And those with wooden cases??? Getting the odd scratch is the most we normally have to worry about, but with these you have to keep an eye out for woodworm too!

The wood was what initially appealed to me - I do a fair amount of woodwork, 78 acres of my property is wooded - I really see a 'soul' in wood, much like with a mechanical watch. Obviously it's not an every day watch, and it suffers from the usual problem of online only retailing of watches, but I do admire them for being prepared to be different. There are undoubtedly a lot of watches that I would buy first - but I will keep an eye on the brand. |

Yeah, and if you got one you would need to add it to your homeowners insurance as well as your termite bond!!

I imagine that the other cases are similar woods and as long as the wood is dried properly and treated there won't be much problem - at least for a few hundred years

I wish they would do something about that crown as well - it's hideous. The rose gold and walnut one sounds particularly nice. |
