Post subject:  Cartier Watch. Need Help

Hello guys,,,
I'm looking at a potential gift for my wife. I like the Ballon Bleu from Cartier;

Large model
Automatic, steel
Ref.: W69012Z4

A couple of questions for anyone that is more of an expert since I can't seem to find anything about the movement and the watch generally, except for the usual advert:

1. Calibre 049 what kind of movement is it?
2. Is is a good movement?
3. Is it accurate?
4. Is it an inhouse or built by someone else?
5. Power reserve?
6. Is it durable? My wife tends to be a little rough with jewerly!

Thank you all in advance!

Answers as follows -

1. Not sure what you mean by what kind of movement it is, but I can tell you the Calibre 049 is an automatic, time and date only movement based on the ETA 2892.
2. Depends on your definition of good, but the 2892 is one of the better outsourced workhorse movements.
3. As it's essentially a 2892, its accuracy depends on the grade that Cartier use. Elaboraté grade is adjusted to four positions with an average accuracy of +/-5 sec/day to +/-20 sec/day. Top grade is adjusted to five positions with an average accuracy of +/-4 sec/day to +/-15 sec/day. Chronometer grade is adjusted to five positions with an average accuracy of -4/+6 sec/day (i.e. COSC). As far as I know it's not a Chronometer-rated watch, so expect somewhere in the Top Grade range.
4. See above - it's an ETA 2892 that Cartier have lightly breathed on - maybe a Cartier rotor or something. Probably not much else.
5. 48-50 hours or so.
6. The 2892 has been around since the 70's so pretty much all the issues were ironed out long ago. Easy to service and repair, and yes it's pretty durable for an auto.
