After five Breitlings I have finally bought my first Rolex. This is a beautiful watch that I had to buy. Getting used to the smaller size and I think I prefer it.

Congrats! It is definitely a beautiful watch. The only thing lacking is a transparent caseback:(

Doesn't matter. My watches are for me.

If you are looking for a lot of ohhhing and ahhhhing for a Rolex I would suggest posting on the Rolex forum, there the people are a lot more enthusiastic about them. I myself would be interested in learning why after five Breitling watches you felt the need for a Rolex?

Who buys a watch on need ? It's a beautiful watch and I wanted it.

That would be useless, Rolex movements are nothing to look at.

Congrats! Rolex makes a great watch -- as does Breitling.

I put a sapphire caseback on my SubC and love it. Mine came from: http://www.customwatchconcepts.com The quality was impeccable; I recommend it! The Rolex automatic movement has integrity, legacy, and high performance; and while not overly decorated, is still very enjoyable to see:

Cheers, and peace!

For me, Breitling has a strong connection with aviation - most of it IS propaganda, but they still finance Breitling Jet Team, one of the best aerobatic teams in the world (at least for me).

Breitling wingwalkers... Breitling Jetman... Official timing and sponsoring of Red Bull air race... Some good old flying machines are still in the air because of Breitling.

They are lightning the spark at the new generation of young pilots so I thank them :lingsrock:

That's my story.

If Rolex is speaking your story to you - enjoy it, it is also a nice watch.

I feel they both speak to me. I have loved my Breitlings. But I have always loved Rolex. As I mature and finances have allowed, I will indulge myself. I have bought my GMT and I am on a waiting list for a Sub c. 12-18 months they tell me. I can wait.

Yes the wait on Rolies at AD's can be considerable.

I have a GMT II BLNR (I can never really warm to the term Batman!) on order at the moment myself. My AD told me a potential 2 year wait, but as a multiple repeat customer they'll "bump me up the list" considerably. He reckons probably nearer 3 to 6 months.

@avusblue - I'm not usually one for mods to watches, but I have to say I really like that aftermarket display back. Sure Rolex don't particularly decorate their movements but they are still impeccably finished and worth seeing over a totally blank caseback IMO. Rolex really should consider offering them - all they need to do is put a slightly more interesting rotor on there and I'm pretty sure everyone would be more than happy.

:yeahthat

I am personally indifferent towards the jewel finish and over decoration on "Geneva seal" grade movements. Maybe because I personally love sports watches and feel that an industrial finish with a raw look on the movements suit them better and project a sense of toughness. While my all time favorite is the B01(I love their open construction and just right finishing), I also love Rolex movements like the 3186. Even though their movements look generally simpler, the blue parachrom hairspring and red wheel add interest to the overall aesthetics. The only part I dislike is their rotor. It looks like an aftermarket piece that had been removed from another low end movement and attached onto the Rolex movement. Nevertheless it is still a pleasing effect to have a transparent caseback.

12-18 months seems like quite a long time. They must be in short supply where you are.

BLNRs can be had from reputable grey dealer sources and even there is a BNIB posted as of last week if you do t want to wait.
