What's everyone's thoughts on the (now discontinued) Corum Bubble watches? And specifically the limited edition pieces?

I've personally always quite liked them as they are the total opposite of Breitling. Breitling watches are very serious, professional and functional things, whereas the Corum Bubble is almost theatrical in lots of ways! If I only had one watch, it'd never be a Bubble, but as something different I quite like them.

The reason I'm canvassing opinion is that I've been offered a very limited edition piece (only 250 ever made) at a very VERY good price. Basically this is this watch on the link below, BUT I've been offered it from someone else at a fraction of what this one is up for -

http://www.chronolux.com/catalog/corum- ... -1128.html

Personally I like it for the reasons stated above, but it'd nibble into my Breitling fund, so I've not fully made up my mind yet.

Opinions?

I voted hate it. Although this is one of the better Bubbles, I find them rather gimicky. For me the novelty of the watch would wear off very quickly and I would be left wondering why the heck I had bought it.

Corum undoubtedly make some great quality pieces, and the Bubbles were fun, niche pieces, just not for me.

:yeahthat

Not something I could wear and look at 20 times a day and smile - like I do with my 'Lings.

Sorry - doesn't do a thing for me.

I hear you guys.

For me, I've always liked them as something unique..... but I will admit that the possible gimicky factor is always a bit of a nag in the back of my mind. To be honest if it wasn't for the amazing price I've been offered I probably wouldn't be considering it. But then do I really want to buy something partly just because it's an amazing price? Probably not is the answer.

I guess this poll is really to justify me not buying it!

There's nothing wrong in buying as a bit of speculation - if the price is that good.

If you don't like it you can sell it on in 6 months - when things are a bit brighter - and turn a profit. If you like it and keep it it's not cost the earth.

As we all say - time and time again: Go with your instincts.

So - it's a horrible watch, you'll be the one wearing it!

I was getting a bit serious there for a minute

 My fingers have been burnt on the speculation front of late with the Olympus!

I definitely like it, but maybe not enough to own it.

The Admirals Cup range are not Bubble watches.

Yes, I am well aware of that, I never implied that it was. Just saying that I like the Admirals Cup watches... especially after seeing the line on display at the WSOP a few years ago ;)

I voted OK.

Again it's different but I have the same opinion as BB I couldn't see checking the time putting a smile on my face as much as my Breitlings!

I think I would rather pay that kind of money for another Breitling but saying that I would have to say that I looks okay if thats what your into! :D

Sorry, my mistake - I assumed as this thread was about Bubbles that was your assumption about the Admirals Cup.

No worries. I fixated more on the Corum brand itself. I've seen these in a display case but never tried one on. We'll have to see how they would work. It's on my list just a bit further down than I'd like to admit :)

Not sure I hate it, but I don't particularly like it, so that's how I voted. It doesn't do anything for me, really, and I can just imagine my friends and co-workers making pirate noises every time I wore it. :)

Nothing against having something gimmicky or entertaining in the collection, but I could think of plenty of options that I would enjoy more.

the one you had your eye on is probably the nicest of a bad bunch. i always thought of the bubble range as the kind of watch rich parents buy their teenage kids for a 16th or 18th birthday present. In terms of the 'good price', you have to ask yourself why they are offering such a reduction and also take into account the high number of used bubble watches currently in the secondhand market.

Corum is a great brand and the Admirals cup (especially in rose gold and rubber), the Golden Bridge and $20 Coin watches are really stunning pieces.

I really don't care for this at all. I would rather spend my money on over priced Breitling collectables.

I just don't see this as something getting a lot of wrist time. Then again I wouldn't mind seeing some wrist shots when you pick it up Driver8?
