I am looking to get a watch for my day job, it just feels like a waste to wear my good watches to a work environment and get them damaged/degrade in value.

I would prefer the watch to be under 500 USD, and must have a date function!! A day function would be nice for those groggy mornings :)

What do you wear to work? Any recomendations?

I wear my Breitlings and other watches to work... but I work in an office. Where do you work and how much stress would be put on the watch?

For $500 new, I'd say try a Fortis, or maybe Oris? $500 is pretty low... Might have to like a Citizen or a Seiko. Maybe a Seiko monster!

I handel a keyboard by day and cigars by night  so no real stress but I tend to hit the ocasional door and bump a wall every now and then

I actually would not mind spending more if the watch can handel a few hits, as I understand it the Breitlings show there scratches like the breitlings (I just sold an Omage Planet Ocean because I couldnt stand looking at the scratches!)

My old Rolex Datejust held up pretty well for 10 years, anybody know if the GMT II or the Submariner are fairly scratch proof like the older models???

I had a Sub, but I didn't find that it held up all that well to scratches. At least not the bracelet.. the case I never really hit anything with.

If you want a hard steel watch, take a look at Sinn, they harden their watches to 1500 Vickers sometimes, and Bremont, a new British company that Orlando Bloom has taken fancy to hardens their cases to 2000 vickers.

Thanks for the help, but this thread is no longer necessary. I went down to pick up my Breitling Chronomat Evo as promised and my AD said it would be another 9 days

I let him know how disapointed I was and how I expected him to keep his promise bla bla bla.......He offered me a further discount on the watch and similar 20% off the other two watches I was "contemplating"

You are now looking at the proud owner of a Rolex GMT II, and waiting on a Chrono Evo and a Tag Heur Carrera

This is one lonely night I am going to spend not wishing I had a wife.

Pictures of all to follow.

I think you've made a very good choice - I bought my Rolex Sub in 1978 (ok, so I'm VERY old!) and wore it everyday until last year when I bought my first Breitling. Talk about bomb-proof - I did anything and everything with that watch (chainsaw, mixing cement, building houses etc.) and it stood up to everything. The only tiny quible was the 'plastic' crystal which did get chipped and scratched but the watch was fine.
