I’m looking for advise.
I’m hitting a milestone birthday soon, a small one, (30) but an important one.
I want to get myself a watch, but have been undecided on how to proceed.

I want to jump into the Rolex game... resale is better, brand recognition is better, and I like the style... problem is size and price.

The deepsea is good on size, but bad on price.

Question is... sell the breitling and have one good watch (Deepsea) or keep it and pick a cheaper watch to add to the collection.

Joe

Hello Joe. I love the Seawolf, I've owned two of them and I'd love to add another one day. I'm currently waiting for a DSSD from my AD, should take a few weeks to come in. These two watches are very similar on most aspects, and different as far as materials and price. If you are anything like me, you could sell the SW and pick a different watch, however you still are going to want the DSSD at the end of the day. If your looking to pick one up on the second hand market, you will do good as far as the watch holding it's value, compared to buying brand new. I'd get the DSSD and add another one down the road. Good luck with your decision!

As Matt said, the Deepsea is extremely similar to the Seawolf in many ways, and having owned a Deepsea myself (and many Breitlings but not a Seawolf) I can say that the only thing I personally really found that the Deepsea has over a Seawolf is brand recognition, and an in-house movement. Yes the Deepsea's clasp is a thing of genius, but once it's sized you'll probably never use the fine adjustment again, so it's hard to use that as a selling point.

That said, my comments are based on technical aspects of the watches and not how each one makes you FEEL. Ultimately, if the Deepsea is the one for you, then nothing will stop you wanting one... in which case I'd say sell the SW to fund it. But if you are looking for a technically acomplished diver, you could do a lot worse than stick with the SW.

Well, tell you right up front I'm not a Rolex guy, so, if my wrist could handle the size I would have a Seawolf in Blue, Yellow, and Black dials, :D .

Well here is the delema.... I want to keep the seawolf and get the deepsea.
So how do I get a good deal on the deapsea?

I found a local grey market for $1000 under retail. with a Europe warenty card dated April 2013.

Any way to get discounts on this model?

Not really. Rolex's always command a premium (due a least in part to a "perceived rarity", despite being churned out in truly massive numbers by Rolex), so you will never find an AD prepared to discount that much, if anything. Rolex are also very strict with AD's about discounts, so none will run the gauntlet of potentially losing their Rolex contract by offering huge discounts.

Just go very careful buying from a non-AD route as the Deepsea is a very well faked watch.
