Post subject:  Watch enthusiasts on Instagram....where do they get their pi

I am not sure how any people on this forum are on Instagram as well. But I figured someone might know. I have noticed ALOT of guys on Instagram over the last few months, in regards to these guys wearing all kinds of watches from Bell and Ross to Rolex to AP and Pam, some Breitlings of course. But not as many as I would like to see however. Anybody happen to know where these guys get their pieces to wear and take action photos all over the world to take photos? I am not sure if these guys wrote watch blogs or are just watch freaks like us and happen to have hundreds of watches. Haha.

I ask because I am jealous!

Instagram is something I am not up to date with. I don't think its that big yet in Oz. I might be wrong, but its something that does not resinate with people I know. Friends and family do the Twitter & Face thingie, but if I mentioned Instrgram they would probably be looking for a telegram guy. :)

As for where do the people on that service get their watches from, well I think its the same answer as to where does anyone get their watches from. Its only a form of media that is different, but the content would be the same as any other.

I know of a few people my age who go to watch dealers, try on notoriously expensive watches (usually covered in diamonds) and upload pictures of themselves wearing the watches to instagram. These people do the same with sitting in cars at car dealerships

I am on IG and I know a few other members here are too. I can't answer your question other than they probably have really good connections and disposable income.

They must be making a lot more than me. Last few I saw was a tourbillion made my Arnold and Son.
Which is somewhere in the neighborhood of $115,000.

Another one was a Ulysse Nardin royal blue mystery Tourbillion.

I am pretty sure that retails for almost $300,000.

Makes sense. But a lot of these photos I see are of these guys out and about in Paris, London, Dubai, etc. None of the pics I see are in stores.

Brought all of this up. Because I want to have access to these watches and do this. Haha.

superavenger13,

You might find the new service from Eleven James interesting. I have no connection to them but I am intrigued by the idea. You pay a monthly fee ($250 is the low rate) and get access to three watches (valued $7,000-$15,000) for the year (2 months at a time). Of course you are paying $3,000/year and in the course of two years would have saved up enough to by a nice watch. On the flip side you are able to try some really nice watches for an extended period to see if you might want to own it. Curious what other members think of this idea of renting luxury items (something similar for jets, homes, etc)? I don't see this appealing to a real collector.

Interesting, I didn't even know something like this existed. I am not to sure I consider myself a collector as I don't have a vast collection nor the budget to buy everything I would like to. But I am with you and I don't see the point in renting these watches a for a few months when like you could save the money and purchase one. It is an interesting idea just not my cup of tea. Thanks for the info however. I will play around on their website for a bit to check it out. Maybe that is what all these guys on social media are doing. Thanks again.

I'm familiar with a few of the people posting luxury watches on instagram. Many of them are bloggers and either get the watches from the manufacturer or from a retailer. Some of them take some amazing shots too. Others are collectors that have impressive collections and some people just happen to be able to get their hands on crazy nice pieces and want to share them with the world. I haven't seen too many people posting pics of watches they don't own and claiming that they do. Usually credit is given to the owner of the watch or manufacturer.

If you ever go the watch shows such as Baselworld you'll see tons of people taking "wristshots" just for the purpose of posting to social media.

I'm on there... WatchFred is on there as well. Some are just well known bloggers, some are true hard core enthusiasts, and some are also dealers who show their wares on IG for sale. But I'll tell you there are some guys on IG who have some amazing pieces. There really is a whole new community of watch guys on there.

And then there are the "re-posters", people who just run sort of an Instagram picture blog reposting other people's pics, with credit given of course. That part I don't quite understand, but to each its own. (shrugs shoulders)

SA: most of the guys on there like say Wristi etc are just rich guys showing off their toys.

Yep, we have some fun on IG :-) I enjoy making all the northern hemisphere people jealous with my photos of Australian beaches... doesn't work as well on JLee though seeing as Cali gets some good weather year 'round.

I actually help my friend run his digital media company, that specifically target horology and lifestyle. Probably most of the true watch collectors who use Instagram already followed him, search WatchAnish and check it out.

Watchanish is one of the guys I follow and caused this thread out of curiosity. I know he has a blog and gives credit from a lot of his photos to others who actually own the watches. Who must send him pics via social media. He has access to some really great pieces and really does have a great blog. Most of the stuff he covers I have never even heard of honestly so I learn something new all the time. He has a lot of info he gives out in the blog and Instagram and some really incredible photos. Pretty awesome you know him.

Along with watchanish from the above thread Wristi is another guy who caused me to think about it. Wristi posts some other photos involving some pretty beautiful women and his watches either on beaches or some other places that I have never been. So him posting his toys on Instagram makes sense. I didn't think he ran a blog or anything and just had a great job and a ton of cash. Haha. Thanks for the info.

Jealousy has been achieved.
