Hi

Has anyone ever thought or done this to their Rolex before. I keep seeing pictures with them on and I'm always tempted to do it just because Rolex movements are really beautiful and Its sad that you can't the movement in all its glory. I would like to try it but then everyone will think its a fake. But its such a shame the Rolex movements are a pice of mechanical art. Strong, reliable movements. Just anyone have any thoughts or opinions on the aftermarket Crystal case back? Also these are not my pictures just borrowed. :) :)

Thanks Joe

Great pics!

I have no experience of after-market case backs, but I would certainly consider one if it wasn't too expensive.

As soon as I saw the display back on the Chronomat 01 LE, I was hooked! Love them.

Talk to Dracha, he recently put an aftermarket exhibition caseback on his vintage Breitling 806 ... looks beautiful!
As for what others think... who cares? It only takes a second to say it's an aftermarket caseback to show off the beautiful movement. Your watchmaker friends would love to see it I'm sure!

I think you're in an unusually strong position to do this Joe: ie any future buyer might ordinarily be a bit twitchy about such a modification, wondering by whom it was done and to what standard etc, but you'd be able to demonstrate that it was done by a trained watchmaker and not some backstreet fiddler.

I went for my particular Omega because it had a clear caseback and wish that Breitling did more of them.

Yep, same reason I went for my Serie Speciale Cossie ;)

Go for it Joe! You can always change it back! Have a look at this custom one made on a different watchmakers forum: http://forums.watchuseek.com/f6/making- ... ost7364537

I think it's a great idea. And you'll still have the original case back to put back on if u ever wanted to sell it. I love display back cases.

Some would say that its not so great on an automatic movement as the rotor gets in the way. But, I think its a great idea whatever the movement.

My preference on making watches in the future is to do this every time. They are not that hard to make and its less arduous than I originally thought when you compare it to making a solid back. If you can get an after market version that just screws straight on, then I see no reason not to. The movement is a piece of art, so why not show it off. You still have the original case back if you pass the watch onto someone who wants the original, so you can't lose.

Well, i have nothing to add, i think its a great idea . ;-)

As you can see mine was not just 'aftermarket screw on' as i had one custom made but i dont see it taking away from originality if you keep the original caseback

As what others think, who cares ? They most likely assume its a fake anyway , with or without display caseback

Love display backs and I have no idea why Breitling does not show off their lovely movements more often. I was tempted to post that display back "triple trio" picture again but I've had my fair share of warnings from Ron about it already ;-)

Thank you everyone for your comments I think eventually I will swap to a display case back as I can change it back anytime I want, I really think its a shame they don't produce more with display case back the Navitimer B01 ltd is a beautiful watch with a display back but they only made 2000. And Rolex has beautiful movements and they put a solid steel case back on it. As you can see from the pictures at the top the movements look beautiful. :) :)
