I tend to agree with the general sentiment. Great that a JLC won, very worthy, but who would have picked that one at the start…still great fun despite the low turnout and another big thanks to Roff for the hard work!

Well, never say never, but certainly not any time soon. 24 votes for the final was incredibly disappointing. I had thought about doing some recurring 'poll' type threads - what's your favourite Basel 2014 release, which watch would you blow $100,000 on, etc, and maybe that will generate more interest, it just seems like we are in a 'down' cycle of engagement levels right now for anything but one or two word posts or 'public private conversations' for want of a better term.

Those sound like fun polls Roff. When can you get started :poke:

Well if, repeat if, I do them Basel seems like a good time to start, but I will make it very clear from the outset that my continued commitment to them is going to be dependent on the number of votes.

If a forum of this size can't get 50 - 80 votes then it tells me that there is no interest and I already (willingly) give plenty of time here without additional no value commitments.

There is a bit of a "wane" lately--which I attribute to Breitling summarily axing some highly thought-of models and the controversy around the Chronomat and Superocean line. It can, and likely will, come back around. Till then, an occasional "mini-poll" could be fun--low stress and maybe more involvement than the "dirty dozen plus ten".

Oh, an when you get around to building some pieces, your 22-person design committee stands ready, though you already have a template. Just a service we provide. :)

Wow I totally missed out on the last rounds of voting. I just stopped by to see which piece won. My pick! Whoo Hoo!

But thanks for putting this together Roff, although I haven't been able to participate as much as I liked to due to work lately.

Well, I didn't help matters - I missed the finals. Been buried in motion practice (everyone has been ganging up on me - yes, I am assuming victim posture and accept no responsibility).

OK, so finally getting this rolling.

We have already done brand specific competitions for Omega, Panerai, Rolex, JLC and Zenith to get down to the top four for those brands. I have also added in the top 4 from the 2013 Breitling competition for a total of 79 watches. We need to get down to 64 for the knockout portion of the competition so there are 15 'play in' match ups to get to that number. I threw the list of 79 watches at the list randomiser at random.org and the top 49 from that randomisation are already in the final 64. Those are (in the order that random.org threw out):

RGM Pennsylvania 801E
Rolex Submariner
Ulysse Nardin Maxi Marine Chrono
Seiko Grand Seiko
Parmigiani Fleurier Kalpa XL
Omega PloProf 1200m
Louis Moinet Twintech
Glashutte Original Senator Regulator Chronometer

Girard-Perregaux World Timer Financial Chronograph

JLC Master Compressor Diving Pro Geographic
Panerai 441
Omega Speedmaster Professional 145.012

Arnold & Son World Timer Skeleton

The other 30 watches are matched up in the play ins and those will be live in the Projects section - http://breitlingsource.com/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=25 within a few minutes. I randomly took numbers 50 to 79 from the random.org list and matched up 50 with 79, 51 with 78, etc. I would have adjusted to prevent two brands going head to head but that wasn't necessary. The 30 watches competing to make the final 64 are:

Zenith El Primero Striking 10th
Breitling Chronomat 769
JLC Master Ultra Thin Perpetual
Aquadive Bathyscaphe 300
Glashutte Original PanoMaticLunar

Panerai 233
Piaget Emperador
Zenith El Primero Stratos Flyback
Maurice Lacroix Masterpiece Lune Retrograde
Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph
JLC Master Compressor Extreme W-Alarm
Devon Works Tread 1

As for the Breitling competition votes will run for a week. Please note that some of the headings of the voting threads have rather abbreviated watch names because of the character limit on thread titles in the forum software but the posts and voting options have full names and the links provided by the nominator of that watch.

Please take the time to vote, a lot of people have contributed to this so far and I would really like to see the community embrace this - we know that we aren't just Breitling fans, so let's make this a great event and end up with a worthy winner!
