Hi Guys. I am currently doing some work for an insurance company that have a 'recovered' Rolex Daytona stainless steel white face (model 116520) at auction. This watch was stolen, and insurance claim was filed and paid. However, the watch was later recovered so became property of the company. As with all other recovered items these are auctioned at the end of the year. I have the opportunity to take part in the auction, but wondered what 'value' would be placed on the watch, considering its being purchased in an auction. Many thanks. Adam |

I think the standard pricing advice will apply here. Your best bet IMO would be to check out completed listings for similar Rolex Daytonas on eBay. Note - it's important to select "Completed Listings" as the ones in green show the prices that watches actually sold for, not just what people are asking for them. After that then the live eBay listings will give you an idea of the prices people are asking. Chrono24.com will also give you an idea of asking price, plus you can sort by "cheapest first" to get an idea of the low-end. I would say that by combining that kind of information, you'd get a decent idea of the prices those things go for, and therefore an idea of what would be a "good price" at the auction. Good luck if you decide to bid. |

Thanks guys. It would appear the current rate is between £5,000 and £5,500 on eBay. Currently the bid for the watch is at £4,100 so definitely worth me having a bid. I've asked for more pictures and if it has papers and/or service history. Is there anything else I should be asking for a watch of this kind? Many thanks |

Many thanks You want ALL paperwork unless you really know a lot about Rolex or have some guarantee that its authentic. Rolex fakes are as convincing as anything you'll ever see. |

a lot of this depends on which serial and variation of the daytona you're getting. there have been quite a few subtle changes over the years. my best suggestion is to go over to TRF and talk with the guys there. In my own personal experience I have seen them go on the used market for anywhere from 9000 USD to about 11,500 USD. |
