Post subject:  Service or rather lack of

Dear Members,

I am sorry to say I am less then impressed with the quality of service provided by I.W.C. who as a leading watch house leave a lot to be desired I received my Aquatimer 3536-02 back from service not in a nice soft case like most other brands I have used no just wrapped in tissue paper and in a clear plastic bag.
That was not all I asked for the service history and age of the watch as I did not buy it new, none of which was given or any reason for not doing so. and bear in mind all of this took 4 month's !!!!!!!!!!!
There was no detail as regards what work had being done unlike other brands who list parts replaced and in a number of cases return the old parts.
All in all a very disappointing experience which left me light in the pocket to the tune of £457.00

As ever your views and comments would be welcome

Kind regards

Walter Wharton

Hi Walter,

They may not have had the details to hand, but an explanation as to why they could not tell you would have been helpful. I really hate that silent pause in the conversation when nothing is coming back forum an enquiry and you know something is not right. Take it that as they have not informed you, they either do not know or they have poor communications in the back room. Interestingly, I wonder if there are privacy laws stopping them form disclosing previous service performed? When you buy second hand its usual for the owner to disclose this, but we often forget its their prerogative to do so. Perhaps that's not extended to the service centre for later owners.

The lack of a list of works, or at least a tick and flick sheet is poor. Its safe to say that we all get a simple list of works done from even the smallest of watch makers in the High Street. So, is this typical or just a bad day when your watch was ready?

Hopefully after the 4 month ordeal the watch is working correctly and functioning properly. :)

@Walter - this doesn't surprise me AT ALL from IWC.

I've documented it on here fairly comprehensively in the past about IWC's total incompetance with my now long departed Big Pilot. Short version - brand new Big Pilot (now retailing for just shy of £13k in the UK), gained a lot of seconds a day and steadily got worse. Went back to IWC three times for regulation - twice to the UK and once to Switzerland : still utter cr*p at keeping time at the end of those trips. IWC UK also managed to scratch the bezel and the case on the first visit, and sent it back to me in that condition, so the second visit also had to polish that damage out too (which I'm astonished they managed to fix considering their inability to fix anything else). A total disgrace which has actually put me off ever owning another IWC as I'd be terrified of ever sending it in for a service.

Dear Members,

I have being on the phone to I.W.C. and have sorted out the issues I had regarding there poor service
the watch itself seems to have being serviced fine my concern was the lack of the certificate of authenticity which I asked for and was expecting to pay for, along with the fact they sent out the watch with out a soft case just wrapped in tissue paper and then in a plastic bag !!!!.

I am pleased to say my time on the phone was well spent they are sending the certificate of authenticity and as it was there mistake they are not going to charge me the £250.00 it should have cost me along with a soft case so happy days !!!!!!!!!!!

Regards

Walter

I have had great experience with Breitling Service, I think it's hit or miss. I have never dealt with IWC, but chances are that it's more of an isolated incident, and hopefully everything works out in the future.

For me it's the opposite. BUK have always been brilliant as far as I'm concerned.
