Over-budget but non-mainstream, 44mm, tough, automatic, anti-magnetic: http://www.christopherward.co.uk/men/vi ... t-mk2.html Slightly cheaper variants: http://www.christopherward.co.uk/men/vi ... t-mk2.html http://www.christopherward.co.uk/men/vi ... k-mk2.html http://www.christopherward.co.uk/men/vi ... t-mk2.html Excellent company to deal with by all accounts and the watches look very well presented so a great gift. |

At that price - TW Steel. Plenty in that price range, even some automatics. |

If it's an Xmas present to actually open on the day, then this option will be too late..........., but you could pre-buy it for him. ![]() Not sure if you're familiar with H20, but they make some excellent watches, and recently they've started a more vintage brand called Helberg. The one below is absolutely awesome value considering the specs - 45.5mm diameter, 24mm lugs, 1000m WR, a choice of SS or bronze for the case including the bezel and crown, flat or domed sapphire crystal, solid or lumed ceramic insert bezel, an option for an ISOfrane at half price (50 USD instead of 100 USD), plus a free Maddog strap worth 300 USD if you order soon............ all for less than 500 USD in total! Plus it's running the Miyota 9015 which is arguably one of the best Japanese movements around. I like it so much I've got one on order myself! ![]() http://shop.h2o-watch.com/HELBERG%20CH6 |

That Helberg is a very VERY good deal IMO, especially if you manage to get in in time for the free Maddog strap. They may be micro-brand but they have a very dedicated following on some other forums, and they all say they make a great quality product. For the cash I thought it was something of a no-brainer if the style appeals. I know if guys who have bought a couple - one bronze, one steel! ![]() From what I've heard (and it's primarily anecdotal as I currently have no first hand experience of the 9015), the 9015 is generally considered better than a base 2824, but the 2824 is a better choice as soon as you move up from the base model. But for $500 (and made in Germany), who's complaining that it's not a Swiss movement...... |
