So, she swiped it from me. Lol... Guess 38mm is considered too small for a man nowadays.

Next, she'll probably be taking my Speedy Pro.

People were saying the big watch trend was a fad and will pass... Will it? :)

I agree with your wife... Sports model for men should be 42mm - 44mm minimum. Dressy watches can be smaller. Of course this is just my opinion :D

There's still some flux IMO. In some circles, particularly WIS types, I think the trend already started back down. Some who have gone bigger will likely will remain static, but the inexpensive fashion watch types I think are still trending very large (48mm and above). To me watch size still depends on the wrist size and shape.

I feel sizes have leveled off and even started to come back down. The big difference is women look great with a bigger timepiece on and can pull off 40mm while still looking very sexy...

IMO most of this has to do with wrist size and shape. I think i am a prime example of someone who got into watches and loved the whole big dial craze but as my taste matured I just started to realize that these large watches looked ridiculous on my wrist.

For me that 36-41 is optimal for my wrist size.

I agree. It's more about wrist size. Some say and have written that 3/4 of the width of your wrist is the ideal size for a watch case, others say 5/8s. Whatever the real size is (and that’s a matter of opinion) there seems a lot more attention paid to wrist size than a desired case diameter.

I still wear about 7/8s as a default, which does not feature regularly as a size reference. I love this size on my fat wrist, but also watches of this size tend to be easier to read (once again, very subjective - but I have found this to be so). To be completely frank, I can't see myself wearing anything smaller than 38mm. My Yema Flygraf (poor man’s Speedie) is a little undersized at about 38mm but I love it just the same. So maybe it’s also something to do with the actual look of the watch!

This describes me pretty accurately. Over the last few years I have started trending smaller and now see the ideal size for my 6 3/4 inch wrists as between 38-42mm.

Her regular daily wear is her ceramic Chanel 33mm J12, but she's seeing women wear larger watches and hence her fascination now with my watches. Good thing my Breitling is still too big for her wrist. Lol

After wearing 44mm watches, I can't seem to go any smaller than 40mm. IMO, the avg sizes for men are now at around 39-43mm. I have a 36mm Patek Nautilus that now looks waay too small for me, and she's taken a liking to it now too. :)

Hey dlNYC,

Sounds to me like your partner convinces you that your watches are too small for your wrist, and then there is a passing on ceremony where she gets to pick up your way too small watches. LOL. Pretty ingenious when you think about it.

I just finished designing and making a watch for my wife. She usually wears a 26mm Omega Deville, but as I cannot obtain a reliable line of small ladies movements, I used an ETA 2824 as the heart instead. That’s 30mm straight off the bat and by the time I had finished a design for it, the case ended up at 38mm. She has a tiny wrist and would not wear anything too big, but, is happy and comfortable with such a large watch. She says it’s also the weight that swayed her in favour of wearing it. It is about 60mg, so is relatively light. Its nearly the same size as her wrist (not really, I exaggerate). But it is big!

Hey PS1, I think you are right...smart plan to take all my watches. Lol

I saw your custom Deville in your other post, and great job! I'm sure she'll enjoy it for many years, and it'll mean even more to her cause you made it!
