Post subject:  Anyone likes Piaget?

I walked pass a Piaget boutique today and all of sudden I was attracted to their ultra thin watches and their simple, yet refined designs. In the end I couldn't beat the temptation and walked in to try on the Altiplano Pink Gold case with black strap. In the end I was totally immersed in the beauty of the watch. I don't have much knowledge about Piaget watches and just know that they are famous for ultra thin movements. Would like to hear yr views about Piaget watches. Thks for help

Piaget make some exceptional movements and if I recall correctly, that is exactly what they first came into business to make - watch movements and only watch movements. It was some time before they even started to case up their own movements themselves. As you say, they make some incredibly thin movements, and that is always a showcase for the watchmaker's art, so they are a highly skilled manufacturer in that regard.

However in recent years they have often been more associated with making jewellery, and specifically women's jewellery, and to me that's a real shame as they make some exceptional watches. That said I'm personally not really a fan of dress watches, and especially ultra thin ones. So while I massively appreciate their ability as a manufacturer, I couldn't see myself ever owning one as their style doesn't do a lot for me personally.

No. Their watches don't appeal to me at all.

They're OK... I only like their Altiplano Skeleton models.

I'd love to own one of the ultrathin dress watches, but they're out of my price range. They're beautiful though.

I feel piaget, cartier and bulgari are jewellery brands.
Maybe can consider GP 1966, BP villeret or JLC master control ultra thin?

I was going to mention the JLC MC Ultra Thin for anyone liking this sort of watch. JLC are very well priced for what you get from them.

Thks all for the input guys. I feel that ultra thin watches make very good dress watches. I am personally not a fan of dress watches but would still love to have at least 1 in my collection in future so as to have a greater variety. To my understanding Piaget started out as a Specialist in movements who eventually moved into watchmaking, but as D8 mentioned, it's a shame IMO that they chose to diversify their focus into jewelleries. I did try on a few JLCs, VC and PP Calatrava but IMO the Altiplano looked exceptionally refined, and to my surprise the price was quite reasonable. Not sure about the reliability of their watches though.
