Ever thought your Breitling might be so much better if only it were cheaper... Much cheaper... No, even cheaper than that!

Well look no further, because thanks to the ancient art of treachery and a simple copymachine... Our friends from the other side of good faith and legality have just what you want!

Oh, and dont worry if you start to feel like in a Vladdy video... It really is that cheesy...

So, want a Navitimer? Here you go, just 69.99:

They even copied the name here...

On a more serious note, I think it is deplorable that such monstrosities exist and make someone a profit. This post is in no way meant to endorse counterfitting or copyright/design infringement. Positive remarks are of course purely ironic, as I hope all will have understood.

I was quite taken aback when I saw all this, so I thought I'd bring this to more general awareness... What do you guys think of this? Sure, it does not infringe on trademarks... But does that make it ok?

Well yes, you took the name from the WWAYWT thread and Google showed you what they produced. They are the same cheap Chinese rubbish that is often branded with the 'real' name but at least are slightly more honest by putting a no name brand on it. Still fakes as far as I am concerned and really don't understand why anyone would buy them.

I did indeed, and then it did... And than I was rather badly surprised. No coincidences there. Hope its not causing you too much of a headache... The remark sounds a bit bitter...

Not bitter, just don't understand why we need to give this garbage thread space. It's not against the rules so I'm not deleting, just seems like thousands of 'real' watches that are more worthy of attention.

It raises a moral question. Legally, the Navi's design for exemple will be out of protection in most countries, so doing a copy of it is fair game as long as one doesnt write Breitling down the side of it. The legislator has ruled in such a way because competition is deemed to be a good thing and should move the whole business along... Its a bit like Hayek saying no one can have ETA movements anymore and everyone starting to develop inhouse movements as a consequence... At least in theory, as that didnt quite work out. Anyhow, aside from the competition argument, there's the perception that art is worth protecting and since watches are arguably a form of art, those as well.

A fair pro argument, a fair contra argument, I for one think this might yield a discussion that's more interesting than "should I buy A or B?"

These watches are garbage fakes. They are produced in unregulated factories with no quality control by workers with no protections and with no care about whether there are any dangerous substances in the watch. The 'tourbillons' are holes in the dials and the 'chronographs' are calendars advanced by the pushers. Oh, and the big date complications don't stop at 31 days. Some of the watches coming out of the factories get branded with a logo that the factory doesn't own and become illegal products, some get no name brand names and are maybe legal products (depending on use of things like lead) produced potentially illegally depending on the worker and consumer protection laws in the area of China that the factory happens to be located. But make no mistake, the watches are identical to the stuff that we get removed from eBay every day with the exception of the logo.

There is room for plenty of legitimate discussion around 'homage' or 'tribute' pieces produced by any number of different manufacturers (and there have been several in the past), but these $5 things are not those. The only reason that I posted in the WWAYWT thread this morning was to try and protect the person with the blurry wrist shot from getting accused of owning a fake Breitling (which I am sure the blurry shot was designed to generate). Really wishing that I had let it go.

Fair enough, I'll keep that in mind for future posts, didnt mean to spoil your day, lets call it an honest mistake.
