good read thanks for posting Serge.

i have to agree, personally i do not see mechanical watches competing with "smart watches". I dont think that smart watches a fad but i just seem them as something that you would wear when doing activities or need specific functions that link to your lap top of pc. In the future maybe smart watches may do things like allow you to pay for stuff from a vending machine or parking at a meter, they already had the technology on smart phones with an app called bump.

it would be cool in the future to own a smart watch, but personally with all things moving digital....its cool to have something that hasnt changed too much in the last 100 years

Its just that all i do on my phone needs a screen at least as big as the orig. IPhone... I just dont see the usecase for the necessarily smaller screen a watch would have...

Who would read this forum on a watches crystal... Even if it was as big as the Emergency II... Its just too small...

You could have a bracelet molded to measure on a model of your wrist... Ultimate thief protection this...

I agree with the his general sentiment and it's good to hear someone extoll the virtues of permanence of mechanical movements.

I do not, however, agree with his statement here :
"...were quick to embrace electronic technology from the time, like Quartz, but it never took off."

Is he saying that quartz never took off?! Quartz won! Quartz is synonymous with watches - virtually no one, but for WIS, knows what it is to have a watch without a battery. I know the swiss watch industry has thrived since the quartz crisis, but to say quartz wasn't embraced is crazy.
