Hi all, looking to hear some opinions on the IWC Pilot's Chrono. This one: https://www.iwc.com/collection/collecti ... n&mid=407# (Hope it's ok to post that link.) Interested in the SS version on black croc. What do we all think? Thanks ![]() |

The Pilot's Chrono is nice, it just doesn't seem 'different' to me - could be any 6,9, 12 chrono. The Portuguese is beautiful, more $ though. I can see where you're coming from, although one thing that appeals to me about this one is that is has that very distinctive "pilot's watch" look which would set it apart from all of the divers I already own. Thin bezel, relatively large crystal and, best of all, the numerals and chapter ring make it look like a slightly smaller chrono version of the Big Pilot (which I love, but can't remotely afford at the moment). Thanks for your comments guys, more things to ponder... Mario - the Top Gun is great (looks good on my wrist too - I've tried it) but not cheap. |

I like the look of the Pilot's Chrono. But, I like most of the IWC collection... Of course, if someone would throw a "Grande Complication" on me I would happily accept. ![]() I've had a few IWC's and right now trying to sell my last one (for the moment) - a small Da Vinci SL. |

I'm loving that ceramic Top Gun. Very nice..... but it needs a decent strap! Breitling should've made the AS (and now SA) Blacksteel out of ceramic, IMHO. |

IWC make fantastic watches, a blend of patek and breitling to my eyes. Their Porteguese line is amazing, and the Spitfire Ratrapante is a truely great watch. |

Anyone know where to get a MSRP listing for the IWC's? I was in Atlantic City last weekend, and tried on a Portugese that was for much much less than I had thought it should be. I became wary I was trying on the wrong one. Looking for soem guidance. Thanks. Jesse |

Thanks. Jesse PretigeTime carry IWC and they usually have fairly accurate US MSRP under their 'retail' listing. Not all Portuguese are hugely expensive - the Chrono lists under $7k. Unfortunately my tastes run to the Perpetual Calendar which is not quite so reasonable ![]() Oh and I'm with Aleister, the Grande Complication is incredible. |

Ceramic would have been amazing... actually anything to set the LESA apart from the LEAS would have been OK by me... it's starting to bug me how close they are ![]() |

![]() It must really be bugging the AS Blacksteel owners. ![]() Thanks for your comments folks. I went and tried on a Portuguese Chrono and suddenly the extra couple of grand over the Pilot didn't seem like so much... For now I think it will have to wait though, first I'm going to channel some funds towards an SA Blacksteel. |

And as a AS Blacksteel owner - I got a watch that looks virtually identical to the SA Blacksteel and I paid $4,100 Canadian (under $4,000 US) including 13% tax. Do the math, that makes me happy. I don't care that there is another watch similar to mine - still only 5,000 combined worldwide. |

Thanks ![]() Otto, the Pilot's Chrono -- and Spitfire Chrono -- have been my dream watches for a few years now. Problem is, I could never save up the loot necessary to buy one. I'd save up about three grand, weaken, and visit my Breitling and Omega AD; then walk out of the store with a Steelfish or Planet Ocean on my wrist. Not that I regret buying them one bit -- they're wonderful watches. ![]() a dream slipping farther and farther away. ![]() Steve |

Right, well, I couldn't hold out forever, or even for very long as it turns out... ![]() The trigger has officially been pulled. Notwithstanding Roff's undoubtedly wise words, I went and tried on the Port Chrono again and it's just a bit too dressy for me (I know, it's not even a proper dress watch, and I'll probably be saying something completely different in 6 months). The Pilot Chrono still looks just right to me. Plus, and this was a big factor, I had a chance to pick one up for an excellent price. In relative terms I think IWCs must now be cheaper out here than they are in the US, given that the Aussie dollar has been in freefall lately, and something tells me that can't last much longer. So the upshot is, Pilot Chrono arriving next week. Yes, I promise to take photos. ![]() |
