Love the Divers watch.

Seiko have always been at the forefront of watch technology. I admire what they do and the spring drive is part of what they do best. Innovative and sometimes breathetaking, always interesting and a great way to get into best technoilogy at reasonable prices.

My first watch was a Seiko. I still have it and its still going strong.

Could someone please elaborate on what spring drive is? Is it quartz, mechanical, or something else altogether?

It's electrically regulated mechanical - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spring_Drive

Thanks Roff.

So the electric regulator (-1) and the quartz oscillator (-1) are powered by the glide wheel (+1) i.e. no need for batteries. Mechanical winding but electrically controlled unwinding, with gliding instead of ticking hands (+1). Excellent accuracy (anything from 2s/week to 1s/day) (+2) !

Interesting little hybrid we've got here. Sounds closer to quartz than mechanical though?
