After literally years of deliberation, I finally got my gold watch today.

The gold watch had to be affordable, yet quality and aesthetics had to be uncompromising. The Cartier Tank Solo fills the bill. I also wanted solid gold, and the fact that the caseback is stainless steel is not an issue for me. As I will not be wearing a gold watch very often, quartz movement is also the best option.

I had the same watch in stainless steel, which I sold a few weeks ago. I really liked it, but also knew that I should have waited and got the gold model. I also pretty much knew that the gold watch I got would almost have to be a Cartier Tank, or at least a tank shape.

The Tank Solo large is IMO the perfect size for a mens dress watch. In gold or stainless steel. It's nice and thin, just over 7mm. This one has a solid gold tang buckle, which I much prefer over the Cartier deployment clasp for their leather/croco straps. I also like the looks of the buckle better than the one on the deployment.

Here are my first pics of this watch. I am sure there will be lots more in the future!

The gold watch also had to suit my only gold ring: 18k Lapland Gold. I got it in the early 1970s when I lived in Finland for a few years:

Thanks for looking and reading!

Cheers,
Carl

Very nice Carl. A friend of mine has been looking for a Cartier Tank for a while but having a tough time justifying the price on his budget. He's just bought an RW tank so I don't think that I'll show him this one

Gorgeous piece!

Thanks, Roff! I guess this is after the fact, now that he has the RW. But the Tank Solo is very reasonably priced for a gold watch. Don't know if he saw them or not. It has a stainless steel back, so that keeps the cost down as well. It does have a quartz movement which, for me, is ideal, but it may not suit him.

Cheers,
Carl

Great pick-up Carl. That's probably the perfect dress watch right there.

Thanks for all of the positive feedback! I have always loved the classic, simple good looks of the Cartier Tank. The Tank Solo large is a wee bit larger than traditional size, and the case sides are flat at the top instead of rounded. A Tank is a Tank, though, and I am absolutely delighted with this one.

I happened to pass by Tiffany & Co. yesterday, and went in to take a look. I found what I consider is the absolutely perfect riing to wear with this watch. I just have this thing about rings as well as watches, and can't wear a nice watch without a ring. This is my first pinky ring, though. I tried on a few, and both the fantastic young lady who took care of me and myself decided this looked best:

It's a ring from the Atlas collection. Named after the famous Tiffany Atlas clock in New York City, hence the Roman numerals. 3, 6, 9, 12 are repeated twice, representing the four points on the clock. I think they suit the Romans on the watch beautifully. They also have a brushed background, which matches up with the brushed part of the watch case between the lugs. The sales girl is such a lovely, warm and sincere person, who was genuinely interested in the watch and seeing that I got just the right ring. It was a lovely experience, and makes the ring and the watch even more special.

Cheers,
Carl
