Hey guys, I know that this has been discussed before, but I was wondering about the perception of Omega in comparison to Breitling. I went into an Omega boutique just to look the other day and really liked the Omega Seamaster Aqua terra on a leather strap. The strap was incredibly comfortable, as soon as I put it on.

Just curious is anyone has any thoughts on this particular watch? I was also considering a Tranocean Chrono (white face), but do not love the gray sub dials, as I would prefer an all white face. Any input would be great, about this particular watch or the Omega brand in general, as I really do not know much about them. Thanks.

I am not sure about perception of others, but to me they are both pretty high on the scale. I like Breitling better and there are others that swear by Omega. The only Omegas I like are the Seamaster older James Bond which I got awhile ago and the Proplof 1200 (which is just too expensive IMO).
Here is the Seamaster and then a Superocean, which are close comparisons to me. I like my superocean a bit more. It is a bit more substantial on the wrist than the Omega.

I really like the Speedmaster Broad Arrows but have been put off by reports about the (un)reliability of the co-axial movement.

Both are great watches. However, I like the direction Omega is going. The co-axial escapement is a radical departure for the traditional escapement. They are pressing the boundaries and are willing to take chances. I like the fact that they are not resting on their lourals and are trying something new

Even though this picture doesn't show all the details, it was one that I had available. I love my AT 8500 41.5mm, spot on timing, beautiful fit and finish etc. I've droned on here about this watch more than enough. I'm sure you can check out my other posts on it....

Here's one...

If you are going to get a ling get one of the navitimers. Something that has that breitling look.
All those watches with the fat bezel look the same.

The current Omegas are IMO on a par with Breitling. I personally like Breitling more but I really do like Omegas, especially the Planet Ocean.

Slightly older Omega watches are very nice. However, with the advent of the Planet Ocean, changing bracelets from pins to screws, and their most recent movements, they've really taken it up a notch (and price!).

I have been drooling over the 8500 Aqua Terra for a whole now. Does anyone know if the grey/teck dial option was limited? It isn't on the Omega website

It's right here, it looks black in the picture, but the only black face is the Golf edition with green numbers. :D

Thanks! I was thinking that may be the case, but didn't pick up on the green markers differentiating

imo breitlings are built better but omegas keep better time. In fact Omega's keep better time than anything I've seen.

To me, Omega is so boring. The P.O. is pretty nice, but everything else is boring. I'm sure I'd be in the minority, but I doubt I'll ever own an Omega. I went with the Superocean instead of the P.O.

My Breitling to Omega ratio is 5:1.
Any advice offered from me would be biased ;-)

I like Omega but very few models. I have a PO and its a nice watch. I like the Aqua Terra as well for a daily do it all watch. I don't get the Speedmaster at all. I'd agree with Jah as they can be predictable looking and somewhat boring. Omega, dare I say it, seems like a brand that appeals more to an older or more conservative gent. The thing I like most about Breitling is the diversity of the line up.
