Been a bit quiet lately since I have been pretty busy with work, but nonetheless have been anxiously anticipating basel announcements and pondering the next step in my small collection. However, with the retail prices and cost of living rising quite a bit faster than my earnings these days I have had a hard time expanding on my small collection.

My Navitimer and Chrono-Matic have been great to me for over the least few years, but now both are up for service, and will require a pretty significant *for me at least* cash outlay, so therefore, I am considering making a change to dodge the service bill as well as fulfill the always present desire for something new and shiny.

Instead of seeking two target watches to look for I am pretty well sold on upgrading to a SS Rolex model as a primary watch (I will still have my Titanium beater). The question to the forum is this.....Which target do I go for?
The Dajejust?

The Explorer II

Of those 3, I like the GMT. The smooth bezel DJII just seems too plain to me, I'm a big fan of the fluted bezel. I'd also consider the Sub as well since the adjustable bracelet is a lot nicer than the easy link adjustment. Here are some pics to help with the decision.

GMT for me Thomas. It's the only Rolex that's still in my box.

Hmmm, I'd join in with that comment, nothing like a GMT. The EX II is nice, especially in white, but I just can't get befriended with those fat hands. Whereas the Datejust, beautiful though it may be, is a tad small for my liking, at least for a 'one and only' piece (weirdly, I still can't stop wanting one). The Datejust ii is no solution for that, it's proportions are kind of off.

So for me... GMT.

For me anyway,

GMT, followed very closely by the EXII, then the DJ.

For a one and only watch I think you can't go wrong with the GMT. Like Justin stated above about the bracelet that was one of my Deciding factors to go for the Sub C date.
Don't discount the Sub C date 116610 or even the Sud C 114060.

I will have to be a differing opinion as I would say the Explorer II. I like the way Rolex portrays the white dial on that model and the orange hand.

I'm going to have to say Datejust on this one, I really like the new design. I'm not a fan of the ExplorerII, so the GMT would be a very close second.

ORRRRR save yourself a lot of money and get a Transocean.

Explorer II for me. Prefer white faces and it's jazzed up by the orange hand.

E II no contest for me. I love it with white dial, black not so much. Good luck with your decision.

The size of the Explorer II is closer to what you own, but as an only watch I wonder if it might be a little too bold. As an objective best "one watch" I'd say GMT, though personally I still don't care for the size of the numbers and markers on the bezel. Strangely, it doesn't look as bad to me in two-tone. If you are cool with it, probably the best choice. The DJii is maybe a little less versatile, but it works and of these three, personally I might take it. Can't go wrong with the GMT or DJii, though objectively again, I'd lean GMT. I understand the love for the Sub, and they didn't mess-up the bezel when they went ceramic there, but if you're used to some polished on the bracelet, you may not be happy with the Sub.

If it was my money, it'd be the GMT.... and only the GMT.

I've never been much of a fan of the E II's styling, and the DJ is just a bit too dull and "old-manny" for my liking. There are nicer looking three-handers out there IMO - the Omega Aquaterra for one. JMO. :)
