Post subject:  20 year old male looking for 1st nice watch...

Hello!
Im new to these forums, but have been lurking for quite awhile.

Looking at purchasing a nice watch for myself as a reward for meeting a business goal.

Looking for something around 43mm case, under $6000ish. So far the Breitling Chronomat Evolution, and Tag Aquaracer Chronograph with diamond bezle. Anything else you would recomend for a younger guy?

Also, diamonds, or no diamonds? This is one of the hardest decisions. I really like the look of a nice diamond bezel; however, I do not want to look like a drug dealing 20year old to everyone else.

Thanks!!

You cant go wrong with an Evolution. I would, of course, always recommend a Breitling over a Tag ......ANYDAY.

On the diamonds... to each his own. I got mine without but have concidered adding the diamond bezel. My EVO is not my daily watch, though and is worn only when I go out to dinner and such. If I was going to wear it everyday, I would probally not have a diamond bezel.

Another choice might be a Blackbird. Same size as the EVO, but brushed instead of shiney.

The backbird is a great choice. You could always go with an aftermarket bezel as well. You wind up saving SO much money it's crazy... though this angers the purists from time to time ;)

Diamonds are a nice touch but probably not for everyday wear.

How easy is it to change the bezels? Can you do it yourself or do you have to take it in?

Thankyou for the advice.

I saw a photo on here somewhere of a members black EVO (I think it was an evo...) with the diamond bezel and black crocodile band. Looked really sharp.

I do not want it for everyday use. More for dressing up, going out, dinners, etc.

Thanks again!

Welcome!

Between the two you named, no contest - Evo hands down. And I say that as an Aquaracer Chrono owner. :)

The Blackbird would be an awesome choice if you're after something around that size. Great call on that one, BroncoSport.

I'm not really into diamonds, and it is really a matter of personal taste, but if you have a budget in mind then I think you should spend it on the watch itself, rather than dressing up a cheaper watch.

The bezels are very easy to change out yourself. Just need the proper sized screwdriver and a steady hand so you don't scratch the watch.

The Chronomat (used to be called the Chronomat Evolution) any day. But of course, that's the reply you'll get from members of a Breitling forum... :)

The photo you saw was probably from Ron - and his watch is truly great looking. If you're looking for your first watch I'd avoid diamonds. The watch will probably be your daily wearer for some time, and in my opinion diamonds doesn't work for all the occasions. Wearing a diamond Chronomat in all situations will probably send the dealer thought through some people's mind.

The Blackbird is very nice - but might be difficult to squeeze under the $6000.

Good luck with the hunt (for that Chronomat!)!

What do think is a fair price for a used EVO if I decided to go that route?

I really like the look of a black face and the croco strap (like I said be4)...however I am a fairly pale guy with blonde hair and blue eyes. Not sure if that is going to look bad, and that I should stick with a white face?

Actually you can get a Blackbird and an aftermarket diamond bezel for less than $6k ;)

That would totally depend on where you're living. But, in general, you should be able to get one in (very) good condition for approx 70% (or less) of the original sales price.

I don't see a problem at all with you wearing a black dial / black croco. Go for it! :)

Really, so I can get a used EVO for about $1800? I was thinking one I found for $2600 a year old was a good buy...

What about white dial, black croco, and diamond bezel? Or what colour strap would look good with white and diamonds?

Yeah, for about 2 weeks until he gets another one, if he's anything like the rest of us here
