I swear my head is going to explode!!!

I purchased a Spring Drive GMT from Andrew Michaels, which arrived yesterday, a mighty fine looking timepiece it is. According to the manual I can use the GMT hand to show the hour in another time zone, exactly what I wanted it to do.

I have followed the instructions for setting the GMT and minute hands in the second crown click position. Then set the local hour hand in the fist click position. Everything looked great once I had set it all up earlier. Now a few hours later I can't make sense of the GMT time.

I set the time on the GMT hand to St. Louis (my works head office) then I set the local time to London (where I am) When I set it up , the GMT hand was showing -5 hours to local London time. Now when I look at it now 4 hours later (1700 Local) the GMT hand is showing half way between the 8 and 9 o'clock position.

Here are the instructions in the manual....

<Mode 2> Using the 24-hour hand to indicate the time
in a different time zone.
• For instance, by setting the 24-hour hand
to GMT while setting the hour and minute
hands to indicate the time in your area, you
can easily check GMT with the 24-hour
hand at any time

1. Pull out the crown to the second click.
2. Turn the crown counterclockwise to set the 24-hour and
minute hands to the time in the “different time zone
area” you wish to set.
3. Push the crown back in simultaneously with the time
signal.
4. Pull out the crown to the first click.
5. Turn the crown to set the hour hand to the current hour.
(In this example, the current hour in London.)
6. Push the crown back in upon completion of time setting.

I have the feeling that my confusion may lie with the fact that the GMT hand takes 24 hours to move one full rotation. ARRRRGh

If anyone can hep me out here, I sure would appreciate it.

By golly I think I have it now....

I have to set the GMT hand to the 1-24 hours on the dial not the 1-12. I think!!!

Correct. If you set the GMT hand (which takes 24 hours to do one revolution) to the same scale as local time (which takes 12 hours to do one revolution) then it's not set accurately. For the same reason you obviously need to read the GMT time off the 24 hour scale as well.
