It's been a bit since my last post... Over the last year or so, I got married and am expecting my first child in thump coming months!

With that said, I'm looking to pull the trigger on one last piece prior to the little bugger's arrival.

I regret the hell out of selling my Navi World not long ago so it still may be a contender for my next piece, but I wanted to get your thoughts on what you all think.

My budget is $5,000 and am interested in either used or new. I would like a minimum of 44mm diameter case but nothing outrageous (and not an SA). Stainless Steel is fine by me and complications are a bonus. I'm in love with the IWC Big Pilot but don't want to splurge as a kid is one the way.

Tell me your thoughts...

What should it be people?

Trans Ocean Chrono used in that price range...maybe just a bit over $5K. The black LE with white subs is to die for and the standard white with black subs is really nice.

As for a Breitling, in that size I like the black arabic dial chronospace automatic.

Maybe a used chrono avenger, and get your wife something nice with the rest of your budget.

What, no poll? :poke:

Have you thought about a piece that you can buy to celebrate the birth and then pass on to your child down the road (either to your son on his x birthday, or to your daughter's husband on their wedding day)? If that is an option then I think that you need to look for something timeless - TO isn't a bad suggestion, or perhaps an Omega?

Not a bad idea Roff, I like where your head is at!

The problem now is, I agree with you, but the wifey sure as hell won't

If it were up to me... The Big Pilot would already be in my collection.

Omega wouldn't be a bad starting point

The new planet oceans would be my first choice. You can probably grab a preowned PO Chrono with the newer movement and display back for a little above your price range. I know Govberg has one now that you should take a look at. If you miss the Navi World, I believe they also have a preowned black dial in stock. The IWC 3777 isn't a bad option, but only comes in at 43mm and would be sligtly abover your budget on bracelet.

As a previous owner I'd recommend steering well clear of the Big Pilot unless you want to take the crystal out and use it as a fan with the hands zooming round at a hundred miles as hour!

Yes it's an achingly beautiful watch (IMO), but it's lack of decent timekeeping has been documented here quite a few times. Plus IWC's inability to fix it. And mine wasn't an isolated case either. I've seen a number of threads elsewhere such as on WUS that mention the same problem.

So if you want a very handsome watch-shaped bracelet, buy a BP : if you want a very handsome watch, steer clear.

Go with the navi, it's truly timeless.
