Hi Guys,

My friend and I spotted a white face stainless steel Daytona today brand new from a jewellers. We are both aware of the rarity of the watch and needless to say he's very close to going down there tomorrow and getting it. Over the years of watch collecting I've been told many times how hard it is to get hold of this watch new and there can be waiting lists of 3-7 years, on top of that I've heard that the watch is actually worth more than the RRP due to the rareness. I don't know how much of that is true but I thought I would consult with you guys. Is it really a no brainer to buy?

ALL LIES!!!!!

Any AD that is telling you this is a piece of S***!!!. The watch is in no way rare and should not be selling for over retail. If you want one you can look up any of the reputable Trusted sellers on rolexforums.com to get it. They will get you this piece BNIB and ship to you the next day.

Dont let the rumors fool you. I repeat they are in no way hard to get.

It's not just AD's that have said it. The prime example is on http://www.blowers-jewellers.co.uk/more_2.htm the one my friend is looking at is £7950 as new as you can get. Yet theres plenty on blowers for £8,450 $8,850 £8,750 ????

They were impossible to get a couple of years ago. Nowadays, a good connection can get you one fairly easily, at retail price. The people paying above list price are the ones who arent aware that they arent as hard to get a hold of these days.

I've been looking at them at a couple of ADs both in Taipei and in Hong Kong.
Both black and white dial were available on the spot and with (not a big one) discount, brand new of course.
So I'm not sure what the hype is about.

This was true several years ago. As you can see above, not anymore.

This.

If I was in the market for one at the moment, I would be looking at the trusted sellers on rolexforums.com.

I owned both a white and a black dialed one (the previous version with the Zenith based movement), and it was nice owning one cause it is very easily recognizable, but I got bored with it. I couldn't deal with not having a date feature on the watch. I don't think they are rare at all. You can find them all day long preowned on fleabay.

Right. I was at my AD yesterday and they keep a black dial and white dial in the safe to "special customers." I must admit, I almost bit. But I was so taken with a rose gold version with a Neman-style dial which was well out of my prudent reserves, I scraped the whole idea. But only after almost coming home with another GMT. In the end, I stood pat, whoever Pat is.

Keep that up Shark and the AD will be closing down soon! :)

I agree that the Daytona had it's day and the white SS version WAS the popular version. Shoot I remember seeing 2 tone models cheaper than the all stainless...for a while. But now, the SS versions aren't too hard to come by and with the right AD you can get them slightly UNDER MSRP. And don't rule out the slightly pre-loved ones either.

My watch guy has a black one and a two- tone Zenith movement that he got in from the guy he sold it to 15 years ago. I was never into them that much but the black one, with that new clasp and the stainless rings around the subdials, is reeeely nice, and the seconds hand with that Zenith is so smooth.

I could see getting one someday, Then again, how long is that list?

Take it easy on Tom, he is a bit vulnerable right now and liable to do silly things ;-)

oh man the RG daytona with the newman style dial is just           .

i have seen them pop up from time to time on TRF for a fair price. still alot to drop on a watch but man would it be worth it. the thought of getting a daytona has crossed my mind, however I am with you on this one Shark, its got to be precious metal otherwise I am not biting.
