Official first day of SIHH today. Slightly fewer exhibitors this year as Girard Perregaux and Jean Richard moved to Basel but lots of major announcements coming out with great coverage as usual by Kyle over on Perpetuelle.

Lots of new stuff as usual from Panerai (quite like the 526 although traditionalists won't, 507 is a mistake I think - there should have been only one Bronzo) - http://blog.perpetuelle.com/watches/sihh-2013-panerai/

New Roger Dubuis Excalibur with 4 balances!!! - http://blog.perpetuelle.com/watches/rog ... sihh-2013/

New Cartier world timer which I personally think looks spectacular - http://blog.perpetuelle.com/watches/sih ... tifuseaux/

IWC focusing on Ingenieur - perpetual calendar -http://blog.perpetuelle.com/watches/iwc-ingenieur-perpetual-calendar-digital-date-month-iw3792/
and 3 hand CF (not sure about this one) - http://blog.perpetuelle.com/watches/iwc ... th-iw3792/

Still lots more to come this week, plus the Geneva Time Exhibition (GTE) which is personally more interesting for me - it's all of the independents.

the Excalibur Quatuor is impressive - but a bit too much for my rather conservative taste in watches,
love the Greubel Forsey Art Piece 1.

assume u saw this one when it was presented in Paris in November, what a beauty:

Yeah the Duometre is very nice, not sure on the GF Art Piece - I see them as such a 'technical' brand.

From GTE ArtyA (Yvan Arpa) always has something different - likely not your tastes either Fred, but you can likely appreciate this one more than some:

I've not had chance to go through all the releases yet, so will no doubt comment more fully later, but I just wanted to say that Panerai sure as hell know how to make a watch!

Every single year they produce a new collection that I'd probably own 95% of if I had the cash. Every... single.... year. Some truly spectacular pieces in there IMO.

(Let's just hope we all feel the same way about Breitling's new collection at basel! )

Can't disagree Driver8. The more I look at the 508 the more I like it!

Probably best known for their Bugatti watches (and there is a new one of those), Parmigiani Fleurier came up with some nationalistic marquetry dials for our American or British members - http://www.atimelyperspective.com/blog/ ... -2013.html

I wonder why Panerai is moving to traditional lugs on the Radiomir. I like the way this new version looks but traditional radiomir crown and wire lugs is what makes a Radiomir unique.

Don't know if this is strictly an SIHH release, but it's recent enough to justify it in this thread I think.

Ever fancied a functional mechanical depth gauge watch, but dont fancy the looks (or the price!) of the Blancpain X-Fathoms? Well Oris have come up with the goods! I think this is great, and at $3,500 it's pretty damn cheap too -

More like Oris trying to steal some SIHH thunder, but great value, and not a bad looking piece. Personally I do prefer the look of the X-Fathoms, but the price - not so much

When did radiomirs get luminor lugs?

Edit: Pete beat me to it.

I really like the ceramic case diver. I heard from a longtime AP AD that AP is having a hard time with carbon cases in terms of their repairs. They don't scratch, they fray, and they're almost impossible to repair and need to be completely replaced which costs a fortune.

Just spent a good half an hour going through the SIHH announcements and there are some very impressive pieces in there. A real favourite of mine has got to be the "AP Royal Oak Offshore Grand Complication" - an absolute stunning beauty - http://blog.perpetuelle.com/watches/aud ... a010ca-01/

But I'm also a big fan of the non-CF IWCs - especially the perpetual digital calendar Ingenieur that Roff linked to earlier - http://blog.perpetuelle.com/watches/iwc ... th-iw3792/

Plus as I mentioned above, I love pretty much all of the new Pams, with the 508 ( http://blog.perpetuelle.com/dive-watche ... automatic/ ) and the 524 ( http://blog.perpetuelle.com/watches/201 ... ono-steel/ ) being the standouts for me.

Oh and quirky though it is, I really love this RD! - http://blog.perpetuelle.com/watches/rog ... ble-ronde/

One thing I find very interesting - and it will even more interesting come Baselworld - is that this year seems to be all about fancy case materials at the higher end. There's lots of carbon, ceramic, and titanium, plus a bit of bronze, composite and even titanium aluminide, or combinations of these materials in two-tone cases. Some very cool work going on IMO. As far as I can tell, there's no sign of rubber (thank god that little fad might be on it's way out!), and also not a hint of DLC as far as I can see. I for one am going to be very interested to see if Breitling manages to "get with the program" and finally embrace some new case materials, or are we going to see yet more rubber and DLC offerings at Basel? My fingers are firmly crossed - I just hope not in vain.
