Looking to add a new watch to the collection. Breguet Type XX Transatlantique or JLC grande reverso date.... Yes both are very different watches for very differnt occasions. I know that I will ultimately have both watches in my collection, just trying to decide which one to get first....

I dont have any experience with either brands.... I have been looking at a lot of Bregue's (marine) and I am not that impressed with the quality for a top tier brand. I have handled a lot of JLC watches owned by friends and the quaity and finish seems to be superior.

I would love to hear your thoughts and feedback, as well any experience owning a Breguet.

Cheers!
Mike

I find the quality and finishing of both brands to be outstanding. Of those two I would take the JLC, but put the Reverson up against a number of other Breguets and I wouldn't even notice that the JLC was under consideration

unfortunately for this watch purchase I need to keep the cost reasonable. I have had the itch to buy these watches for a few months now. Next year is time for the grail dress watch, either a Lange, Breguet or Patek.... But I have a soft spot for Lange......

I owned a Breguet XXI, as have a couple of other members here. If the dial was black instead of brown ruthenium, I would still own it. The detail was tremendous, something like seven different layers/levels on the dial, and the feel of winding the watch is like nothing else I have owned. I don't think the XX is as sophisticated but its been a while, I could be wrong. You do need to recognize that at least price-wise, the XX is on the low end of the Breguet spectrum. It is a very different watch from the Marine, and in some respects better IMO. I loved the bracelet though it is a subjective fit, little or no adjustment. For a sports watch, the XX is a bit small.

I still want a Reverso someday. I have tried them on several times, in different variations. Size is relative when it comes to them, as they are so thin that they wear like a bracelet. Great timepiece as well, great movement and bang for the buck.

Totally a personal taste issue in comparing these. I would think the Breguet would be more versatile with or without sleeves, though the Reverso is probably the ultimate sleeve watch if that is your purpose. For me and my wrist size, the Reverso suits better as a niche watch. If my wrist was smaller, though, I wouldn't hesitate for the Breguet.

I think it was always the Breguet, its just the most beautiful sport watch IMO. Best hands on a chrono I think.

I decided over lunch today while having a work lunch. Another watch I was going to add was the Zenith elPermiro, but I think I would never use it as I would just wear the Breguet.
I was only considering the XX, but now after what you are saying I think I will have to go and check out the XXI.... Also looks great in platinum with the salmon dial!

Time to exercise the credit card a bit

I think this will replace the GMTIIC to become the daily beater :D
