A friend of mine was offered this as a trade for something... Its in terrible condition. Tritium dots are yellowing; some are missing. Diamond bezel looks sloppy. Crystal looked scratched up so im guessing mineral? I wasnt able to remove the bracelet to check for a serial. Thought on authenticity?

If that is original, I would love to know the story on how they got 904L to rust like that. They must have stored it in a vat of brine!

Believe it or not, its not rust. Its caked on grime. Absolutely disgusting.

Personally I'd steer clear of pretty much any Rolex without a decent provenance - they are just too easily and too often faked.

However, the fact that this one has diamonds on it may help identification. Any jeweller who sells anything with diamonds will have the little electronic device to instantly test diamonds for authenticity. It'd be highly unlikely IMO that someone would put CZ's on a real Rolex, or real diamonds on a fake, so if the diamonds are real, it'd be reasonable to assume the watch is real. Granted it's not a 100% fool-proof method, but it's a very quick "non-invasive" test, and on the balance of probability I'd be far more confident about it.

For me some reason it just looks off to me. I'd be interested to hear the outcome.

Don't forget to let us know.

Im just gonna advise him to turn down the offer. Even if its real, its not a particularly attractive offer anyway.

Prolly a good call...even if it is real, if someone neglected it THAT much, I would dare say that it will almost surely need a service and probably a pretty comprehensive one almost immediately. Once you add that to the price, I imagine you can find something nicer that doesn't need a service for less.

Wasn't it Sergio that coined the term "wrist cheese" not too long ago? That thing needs a bath!
