Now i know why some watch brands are way over priced, because they sell to idiot with to much money.
So today i had to make a trip to LA. Since I had an entire afternoon to kill, I went to Beverley hills and rodeo drive. Walking up ad down the road i saw a humbolt, patek, IWC stores. Considering the location and potential clients, these folks are under the belief that the more they pay the better it must be. I saw this behavior first hand...twice today. These people just amaze me... One said "so the one that's 150 is better than the one at 125 right". The gall behind the counter " yes, its better". Then the customer.... I'll take it then.... Oh and that was 150k...these people are so....um......
So, set up shop on a place where you give the illusion that what you sell is exclusive and charge what you want. Your product only has to be functionally good and you'll make a mint...

Sorry for the rant... But it was really a mind blower

Hi Ken,

Try not to get too syndical about this or else you will end up like me! :)

When you think about it, there is sense in all of this. People who can afford to pay a lot of money on things they probably know little about (and probably care even less) have an inherent need to spend. I say, we should facilitate that need. Our role should be to encourage them to spend lots and spend frequently. That’s what keeps the economy ticking over.

If they don’t spend it, then there is little point of having expensive stores in hyper expensive shopping strips? Right! And where else are we going to drool over a makers offerings if these places don’t exist?

There is no point in getting upset either. If people don’t want to be educated beyond a salesperson reasoning, then there is nothing that can be said or done to persuade them otherwise. So, they buy on a sales recommendation and that provides a spot of light relief for the rest of us.

Or, perhaps the $150K buy was actually the pick of the bunch and a bargain to boot! The person who bought this might think that way. For the rest of us, being in that position is just a dream………..
