I have been looking at allot of watches for a long time. I have pretty much decided there are a couple brands I don't think i would own with their present offerings. 1. Patek ... They just don't appeal for the price. Not masculine enough for my taste 2. Bell and ross...big and gaudy, not a style that works for me. 3. Panerai, style is boring and plain, not a fan of the 50's What brands just don't work for you and why? |

Patek - have not found one yet that would make me sell all of my watches just to own that one. Panerai - that style does not tickle me and they all look the same to me but than again that's what Panerai admirers would probably say about Breitlings Rolex - I do not doubt for one minute that they are great watches but I just have not found one yet that would make me reach for my wallet and believe me I have tried to get to like Rolex. |

I'd have a hard time justifying anything over the price of my Blackbird as I don't see myself getting any more enjoyment out of something else unless perhaps it was a Blackbird with an in-house movement. But that's just me. Many of my friends have always wanted Rolex...I've always wanted Breitling. -Patek-As much as I love the brand, nothing they make really appeals to me. -Tag-I had an Aquaracer that kept horrible time and went through multiple services yet still kept awful time -Zenith, Cartier, and most others in that class range-again, neat brands but nothing appeals to me Really, other than the Omega Seamaster, JLC Compressor, Rolex Sub/DSSD, a Grand Seiko, a few UNs, and of course Breitling, I wouldn't consider most mid-high end brands as something I would personally wear. |

Rolex - Jewelery for people that know nothing about watches, in most cases, over priced and too small. |

Since the question was "high end" watch brands, I'll stick what this means to me. I would never think of owning Tag, Bremont, B&R, Seiko etc., as the brands are too generic for me. I consider these to be more entry level brands, not high end. 1. Rolex- I will never, ever own one of these. Vintage hit the nail on the head, although some WISs, do love the brand and wear it for the right reason. However, I would argue that 99% of those who wear a Rolex don't have a clue about watches and only see the brand as a status symbol. 2. AP- Specifically, the Royal Oak line. I think the brand is overhyped and the watches are butt ugly. However, the Jules Audemars line is alright and I wouldn't be pissed if my wife bought me the Equation of Time. 3. Chopard- I think of this as more of a jewelry company than a watch company, even though some of the pieces look alright 4. Cartier- Same as above |

I'm very much in the "never say never" camp. There are a number of brands who currently don't produce anything I'd personally wear, but that only means I'm not attracted to their current collection. For example, B&R do nothing for me, Patek are just too dressy, Jacob & Co are generally all hideous, etc, etc..... but would I write off these brands as a whole? Probably not. (To be honest Breitling are perilously close to being in that category at the moment as I don't want 99% of their current offerings ![]() I just can't think of a single high-end brand that I categorically would not ever wear because of their perceived image, etc. Even Tag (who suffer from something of a "wide-boy" image in this country) have produced some nice pieces - two of which I've owned. I guess I've mellowed....... |

Corum, Jacob, Cartier, and recently Hublot. Corum is horrid and random. The rest are like celebrity statements of wealth. Statement of wealth is not a bad thing, but those brands are IMO the bandwagon watch to wear if you just want to be noticed. |

I'm gonna go with Driver's comments on this one... I can't say never because later on when I do find something I like, I'm gonna buy it and look like an ass. Having said that, I'd like to appreciate and learn about all companies... jack of all trades and master of none. But I'll agree with the Jacob and Co. comments. Hublot IMO has a lot of potential, only if they would stop charging an arm and two legs for some of their models. In respect to "jewelry makers", I'll disagree with the Cartier comment respectfully, as they've upped their game in R&D as well as design over the past few years. But I won't wear any of Tiffany's watches. But Harry Winston I would. So it's all subjective in the end for me. |

vintage wrote: Rolex - Jewelery for people that know nothing about watches, in most cases, over priced and too small. A bit harsh Paul. I do kinda agree with Bozman that, say, 90% of the people who wear a Rolex have no idea about watches. I personally enjoyed the Sub C and GMT C very much. I thought they were remarkable. The DJ I had left me cold. And I am convinced at least 90% of Breitling owners wear their one or two watches as a pure pieces of jewelry too. They buy a big blinger because it is big and flashy and looks cool and haven't the slightest appreciation for what it is or what is inside of anything else about time pieces. That is the typical consumer. On topic - PP and AP (sadly because of size issues and price, I no longer covet the brand). Also Panerai. I tried, but it didn't do it for me. I would want a Rolex because nearly everything is made by rolex and it is so well made that one watchmaker said as soon as they put the balance in it was nearly perfect and did not need much adjusting. |

There is not a single brand that I would reject. There are many that don't appeal right now based on their offerings and my tastes, but who knows how that will change. I consider it unlikely that my tastes will align with Jacob & Co.'s offerings at any point, but never say never! |
