I am curious what everyone's opinions are on Panerai watches? This watch is starting to grow on me and I am beginning to like them more and more.

As I research this brand I have sought out the advice and feedback on other popular forums. As a Breitling owner I am very passionate about the brand and take a lot of pride in owning one. One thing I am beginning to notice about Panerai owners is that they seem to take the pride of ownership a bit too extreme.

I have found that a lot of people are downright rude and arrogant to people who are not as knowledgeable about that brand and just trying to discover it for themselves. I can completely understand the passion that watch collectors have about their preferences, but there is no need to snub your nose to others.

I have had the complete opposite experience here with This forum. The Breitling Source has been very helpful and I feel it greatly promotes the Breitling brand.

A Big Bang is an absolute must for everyones collection, go try one on at an AD and try to walk out the door without it on your wrist...almost impossible.

I have to agree here about Hublot Big Bang. This watch is very impressive in person, the price tag isn't to shabby either. This watch is definitely on the wish list.

Another thing I have noticed about Panerai is that the straps are almost more important than the watch. There is just something about the Luminor Base model that is just so simple and beautiful. I really see myself picking one of these up sooner than later.

I wasn't a huge fan of Panerai when I first saw them on-line but then I went to an AD and really liked the models I looked at. The models I tried on were on bracelets, which I liked a lot better than the leather straps. I'd love to pick on up someday.

I've been threatening to buy a Pannie for a couple of years now, but never actually taken the plunge. I'm not sure if I'd ever have a collection of them, but I certainly fancy at least one! (Although I'm sure that'd change after owning one though!)

In an ideal world I'd get hold of a 1950 Flyback Regatta...... failing that, an Arktos..... and failing that, a Submersible or a GMT. Given that the Regatta and the Arktos are unicorn-sh*t rare (and expensive), I reckon I'll have to concentrate on the GMT or Submersible.

........BUT there's always too many Breitlings to buy first! :wink:

Admin has a Panerai forum - Paneraisource.com that's linked from here, and there have been a lot of Panerai postings over the last year ot so - less since we kicked them all onto their own forum I can appreciate the watches for what they are technically, but I'll never own one - to me they just all look the same and don't do anything for me. That said, there are plenty of people on here who do like them, but you won't find too many people who think that the folk on Paneristi are a good advertisement for the brand.

Panerai? Love them! As most watch collectors I started off with smaller watches and slowly made my way to larger ones. The more Panerai I saw the more I had to have one. Now I've got four in my collection. Not all Paneristi are die hard nut cases. I'm fairly active in my local Paneristi group and have been to a couple of get togethers. Everyone I've met has been great and I have learned a lot about watches in general from them. I'd say 1% of the Paneristi following are the die hard snotty type while the rest are great guys. Don't be scared of them, ask some newbie questions and ignore the one stupid response...the other ten replies will be genuine answers from very knowledgable, nice people who are there to help others learn about the brand they love.

They are definitely not everyones taste (from the many gynasium wall clock comments) but I really like them. BUT I only really care for the non-crono versions with minimal markings on the dial. Simple, beefy and elegant. I tried on a Base Logo and.... WOW. The pictures dont do them justice, you have to see it on your wrist. Scott

Post subject:	Now that there is a connection...
...between Breitling and Panerai here in the US (BUSA has seen a changing of the guard in Wilton!), with Marie moving on to Switzerland and the former head of Panerai taking the reigns in North America, it should be interesting to see what happens next. My guess is that we'll see even more LE's, as it seems that Mr. Bonay does like his limited editions. Personally, I own examples of both Panerai and Breitling and enjoy them both very much. I have never seen a reason to exclude other watch brands. If you like something, wear it! Regards, -jbbb

I wasn't a huge fan of Panerai when I first saw them on-line but then I went to an AD and really liked the models I looked at. The models I tried on were on bracelets, which I liked a lot better than the leather straps. I'd love to pick on up someday.

Prices are pretty good but still over 10k+ for the big bangs though...should change the name to big dent ! in wallet

After you pick up your first Pam you will probably wear it on a bracelet for about a week before switching to straps. The most fun part about owning Pam's are switching out the straps. Another must have for everyones collection, at least one base Pam (112, 000,005) and about 20 straps to change out.

So you want a 1950? Arktos styling? Amazing sub? You have to get a 1950 Pangaea Sub w/ Depth Gauge! I've been drooling over these since the first picture came out. 47mm of badass. Problem...possibly have to sell half your lings to fund it and rarer than finding a stripper not 'paying her way through school'.
