Well, significant birthday coming up and I am torn.... Do I buy myself a Panerai 372 or a Rolex Deepsea Sea Dweller? Cost is about the same and availability not an issue.... I already have 2 Breitling Headwinds (1 x black dial 1 x champagne dial), a Chronomat and a Panerai 359. Tried them both on, they're both singing to me but I gotta go with just one and it could well be the last watch I buy - at least for a good while. What do you think? Thanks! |

Deepsea for me. The plexiglass on the 372 is enough to discount that immediately. Plus I find the time-only 47mm Pannies too plain. If you were looking at a 270 or something then I'd answer differently, but the 372 is far from my favourite Panerai. |

Can I vote for neither? As you have a PAM already, I'd go for something else. But as your "something else" in this instance is a Rolex (and I hate Rolex), I don't like that option either. What about a Breguet Type XXI or a JLC Master Compressor Navy SEALs? |

With a Rolex on my wrist I vote Panerai. Why? Because the sea Dweller at least in its most recent incarnation carries as much Rolex DNA as an Opel Astra. The Panerai on the other hand is the purest expression of its identity. It has more pedigree than a cocker spaniel an who doesn't love those? That is, if you can live with the size. Judging by your having chosen the smaller 359 prior to this... I suspect you might not be willing to do so in the long run? |

I HATE  cocker spaniels I was bitten by one as a kid , I won't go near them.... I would probably vote for the Rolex for a change of pace in your collection..

DSSD went up by £980 in June! 14% increase sounds a bit steep to me but the thing that bugs me most is me not getting my thumb out of my @rse and getting one 6 weeks ago! |

Just one more reason to love Rolex... Not to get the Cocker thing back on track, but we don't stop feeding them and they won't stop biting us in the part of our anatomy some may or may not have fingers in. |

One plus with Rolex though is that it seems if you hold it long enough, it will be worth as much as you paid or more on the used market if you ever sell it...it is amazing what I see late 1980s Sea Dwellers sell for... |
