Hello

I have a vintage jaeger lecoultre and was just wondering if I sent it back to jaeger for a service dose anyone have
a rought idea how much it would be.

If it's vintage, you should try sending it to member chronodeco (Craig). He works on vintage JLC. It'll probably be a lot cheaper too versus sending it to JLC. Tons of references for our man Craig here.

It ain't cheap. I've sent two. However, the watch will literally look like new when it comes back.

The service & cosmetic work (which they list as "polish as best as possible") will cost a minimum of $1200. If you want the dial refinished / replaced (not sure which they do) that's another $900-ish. After shipping, this cost me just over $2200.

They've since removed the T's bookending SWISS MADE since they weren't there originally - of course at no charge. Runs great, and costs less than it's modern 18ct cousin the M.U.T.

both watches show no soul, no history, no signs of the life they have led.

+2 on the impressive work, but I personally disagree with Fred and Roff on the other point because this is EXACTLY what I'd want a vintage watch to look like! i.e. vintage, but brand new. But then again while I often like vintage style watches, I'm certainly not a vintage watch aficionado by any stretch of the imagination............ and I guess that's why I like the work done on those JLC's. :thumbsup:

Hmmm.... Kinda on the fence with this kind of decision. I love vintage but I can't wear something that looks like it's been thrown 100 feet, run over with a car and dragged. I prefer vintage that still looks somewhat new. What I won't stand for is a refinished dial.

People won't believe my 69 chronomatic is from 1969 whenever I show them.

Yea why wouldnt someone want a watch with half a strap and no crown??? Beats me. I'd much rather have the vintage unwearable unwindable watch :poke:

Mixed emotions on this. I enjoy my 43 year old Accutron because of its great original condition. I wouldn't have bought it otherwise. However, to me a JLC is a different thing. It's an heirloom-quality piece. It will more often outlive its owners and can fall into uncaring hands. It would be great to have an original in the same condition as my Accutron but for the piece pictured above, its life was over unless just the right person picked it up. I have seen pics here of some pieces in bad shape which were restored to look in pretty-aged condition. I can appreciate that to a point but also see no problem with giving a great watch left for dead a completely new life. At least for me, a watch of this quality has to be crisp looking enough to wear into my office.

hmmmm, yes, this would perfectly describe my vintage pieces, now why did it take me so long to notice ? That poke really made me open my eyes, thanks.

It's interesting how we view different products with respect to restoration. Personally, I'm with Driver on this - I like the factory fresh look even in a vintage watch. Others prefer the patina of age and experience. But if we were discussing cars, I suspect that nearly all of us would want our Mercedes Gullwings to look shiny and new (assuming that any restoration had been done expertly) rather than display their imperfections. Or maybe I'm letting my own bias cloud my thinking.

I can see both points but I like the factory look and its been done by jaeger so its been restored to how it would look when it was first bought. But its personal preference. I think that jaeger have done an amazing job and to know what it was like originally theirs been a lot of time spent on restoring this watch.
