ok, im at a crossroads. ive been eyeing/lusting/drooling over both models for a few years now. life, kids, other things have kept me from buying one or both. well, im finally at the point i will be comfortable enough to purchase one of them shortly. im just torn. on one hand i love the super avenger for its massive size. i have 8" wrists, 6'3" and workout etc... so large diam watches proportionally fit me well imho. (wear an oris dermeistertaucher 49mm) i love the rolex because well, its a rolex. lol. inhouse movement, all the specs on the watch. the only downside to me is its only 43mm. which sometimes my wrists make the watch look kinda small..... then obviously the price difference. i know i can buy a couple really nice watches for the price of a dssd, heck even a used one. lol. i would most likely stalk the dssd down on watch recon and get a LNIB off of a trusted seller. looks like you can save a good amount, especially since the price increase. either watch wouldnt be worn for work or on a really frequent basis. weekends, etc. idk, i would love to hear from someone who actually owned(s) both. thanks |

As an SA owner I'd say go for the Deepsea in a heartbeat. Nothing wrong with the SA per se (apart from it's bling bling image these days), but the Deepsea is just a much much better watch all round. The Deepsea is actually 44mm despite lots of claims on the net that it's 43mm, so you've got an extra mm there anyway!  Yes it wears smaller than the SA, but IMO size really isn't everything.

im gonna try one on locally soon. i know the % off discount i can acheive at an AD. but it looks like i can buy a LNIB still under warranty for about $1300ish cheaper than that. ive wanted the SA for longer, but the rolex is just as tempting even though the diam. might not be exactly what i want. i just need to try the dssd on again and see what i think.. |

I would much rather have a substantial part of the cost of the watch I wanted saved and be working on the rest than have a watch that I 'settled' for and an unscratched itch for a different one. |

Yeah, I hear ya. It isn't as much about the cost as I'm not dead seton the dssd. Probably only thing will sway me one way or other is trying them on again |

like everyone has already stated DSSD is the clear winner of the 2. to be honest its not even a fair comparison. |

I can understand the DSSD being the overwhelming pic, but I too have 8" wrists and as nice as the Rolex is at this stage of the game I like larger watches and had that range of budget for one watch, so went with the 6.75. That having been said, if it's a watch to wear all of the time I think the DSSD would probably be my pick as the 48" watches are pretty chunky even on a fairly large wrist. I assume my Seawolf is fairly close in size (to the DSSD) and works well day to day. Between the two mentioned I'd also take the Rolex, just too many more pluses even if a touch on the smaller side. (I have owned a SA in the past) PS: Just read your post again and see it won't be an every day watch. What that makes me wonder if there's something larger in the Rolex price range you would like as much. Anyway, you have a fun problem to deal with.  I like the new Planet Ocean Chrono 9300 a lot! It's one I would definitely consider in I was in the market right now. |

The dssd is the biggest watch they make. I guess I should have included the Pam 372 , pam 422, pam 423, in this post. That's the other watchs I've been lookin at. they are all 47mm, and thick. so i guess if you think about it, i should have had the panerai's and dssd in the same league. since the SA is half the price... the pam, and dssd are about the same price... |

I don't think anyone's mentioned it yet so I will: the DSSD will have MUCH better resale than the SA. Find yourself a nearly new DSSD from one of the TRF sellers and you won't need to be concerned about losing money if it turns out to not be the watch for you. |

i know what your sayin on the resale value of the rolex. even with the average/small discount you can get on a new one, with current pricing trends. it seems like if you kept it for a year or so you would be able to break even on your purchase. seems like the only time you really lose money on them is when you get rid of it within the first year of owning or before the next price increase... on the super avenger. it seems to be the same with the resale as the rolex. IF you can get a pretty decent discount, which are still available at some AD'S if you know where to go. then, keep it for atleast a year or so until the next price increase. the biggest thing IMO going for the SA is the popularity of that watch for a breitling model. i want a white face, which seems to get snapped up pretty quick in the used market.. |
