If you were to buy one watch for $5000 - new or used - what would it be?

Instant knee-jerk reaction is a pre-owned Navitimer, pick your flavor and Olympus is in play at this amount, or a pre-owned, pre-ceramic GMT II. Yachts are pricier and most JLCs are just above this number, I think. Dark horse candidate--Omega Speedy panda Apollo 11 anniversary.

Twisting my arm now...Just saw Shark's new watch last week and it's the looker of the group ( in stainless, price should be right) but right now I'm missing my GMT.

While I am not a huge Rolex fan but I do like the Milgauss I belive you could pick up a used one around $4500. Also the 8500 movement Omega Planet Ocean is around that too. Lots of watch for the money on the Omega. As for Breitling I really dig the TO Chrono and seem to remember seeing one used around the $5K mark.

All personal preference but 5k can buy a lot of choices. Depends what you want in your collection.

Everyone's already picked some good choices.

Used: probably a Chronomat a13352 on Pilot, or maybe an IWC Pilot's Chronograph, although the latter might be hard to find in good condition for $5k. New: Omega Seamaster Pro Ceramic, or for a little over $5k, Aqua Terra three-hand.

Used Navi or new Speedy Professional, sapphire sandwich variety. Spend the 500 leftover at bice dinner with the girlfriend. I've been longing for a chrono and both of these would scratch that itch.

Come to think of it, with a good discount, one should be able to get a new AT three-hand for well under $5k.

Navitimer for sure, however I would need to try on a Transocean first.

I guess either an Omega moon watch or a Rolex Explorer I. I suppose one could get each of them new for that kind of money...

A Rolex Explorer I currently lists at $6550. I doubt you'll see a new one from a legitimate seller for $5k.

A hesalite Speedy retails for $4500. A sapphire sandwich Speedy retails at $5500, so with discount should be had for under $5k. Both are great choices.
