Post subject:  Scary how far fakers have got!

Hi, just thought will share this here. Though is vintage Rolex related, it highlights how close fakers have got to faking dials and am sure they have been trying the same with vintage Breitlings too as we often see. Thankfully with the knowledgeable guys here and other forums and the power of the internet leading to an increased awareness, they can still be caught out. See how this dial was caught out based on minute details and imperfections in the font lettering that a newbie would never quickly see. Worse still, it was sold by a supposedly reputable dealer and with a ad picture different to the watch actually sold(again caught out by imperfections in the fonts. etc.).

and one of the evaluations by a member there amongst many others that caught out other things

There's a number of giveaways that this is not a correct MK VI dial beyond what has already been mentioned by several posters. Look at the 2 in 200m. It's a straight diagonal from the top of the 2 to the bottom of it. Now compare every MK of the red sub dials. The 2 is always rounded/has a curve when going from top to bottom.

The other giveaway I see here is that the F's and T's in "Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified" have tails/hashes at the ends of the lines of the letters. The T's almost look like a set of horns.

Another error I see is that the middle line in the E in Submariner looks to be the same length as the top and bottom lines in the E. That's a common defect found in non-genuine dials.

Finally, the bottom of the coronet is too closed compared to a genuine MK VI coronet.

PS: Roff, please delete this thread if is inapproriate on this forum, just thought will bring to our attention how closely fakers have been trying to copy vintage watches in the chase for a quick buck. Offcourse we have seen some very bad fakers too:).
