My AD got her FedEx package this morning from Rolex with the new prices...they were unaware of it until today. Typical. $8,550 for a Sub-C WOW! I bought my GMT IIc two years ago, it has gone up more in value than some stocks!

Hence why I can't go NIB. I just depend on cold hard cash and the reputable boys over at TRF. 8)

But other maybe than a DSSD in the near future, I don't see myself expanding my collection with Rolex anymore. Gotta venture out to other brands as well.

Lately I've had an itching for a contemporary piece from our beloved Breitling. B01 or Navi World anyone? Actually screw those... I need a Mark VI.

These mothers had record years in the last couple years and they are raising prices AGAIN?!? This whole USD versus Swiss Franc nonsense doesn't fly anymore. Less than year ago they did an 8-10% across the board increase. Now what? Another 5%? Color me disgusted.

More than 5, the Sub C went up 7%.

Next will be Breitling to raise there prices, they have to make up for some of the monstrosity's they have made the past year. Who's down for a 4500 Soh? How About a 6k Sa?

I remember back to the good old days when I left my dealer with a Steelfish for under 2 grand. Sad thing is that was only a few years ago.

4500 for a SOH? I think by then I'll have gone for an Omega SMP. Last time I went to the Omega Boutique they had their bread and butter Co-Axial SMP with black dial for 4k flat.

But by then when the SOH reaches that pricepoint, the yahoos at the Swatch Group will jump on the bandwagon and raise prices too.

Just can't win.

Ditto. When the Sub-C came out two years ago, it listed at $7,000. This latest increase makes for a 22% increase in two years. What justifies that kind of increase?

Rolex has always been priced a good amount higher than the competition. With everybody elses recent increases, Rolex actually started looking like not such a bad deal afterall. I think they had to put a quick end to that.

That doesn't mitigate my disgust any.

I thought I looked at one for about $7k when I first started buying watches in earnest. 22% in two years - that number puts it in perspective. It is a bit tougher tracking Breitling with all the new in-house models bumping prices. But the Sub C is precisely the same today as in 2010. Wow.

I have to correct myself slightly. I was basing what I said on memory. After looking it up, I found the US MSRP for the 116610LN upon first release in summer 2010 was actually $7,250, which makes the price increase 18% over the last two years. That's still pretty huge, though.

Exactly. We're not getting any improvements for the price increase, so what else justifies the price? Inflation only accounts for $400, or 5.5%. In other words, if a price increase was only due to inflation, the Sub today should be selling for $7,650. As for the increase in the Swiss Franc, it's a bogus argument. The Franc is actually worth less today, relative to the dollar, than it was in May 2011, when the last price increase brought the Sub's MSRP to $8,000 - a good 11% less. If Rolex is attributing the price changes to the value of the dollar relative to the Franc, then by rights the price should have come down, not gone up.

At the end of the day, Rolex will charge what the market is willing to tolerate. I have a feeling the number of watches sold won't decline much with the new price increase.

US prices should actually be reduced by about 10.5% - the decline of the Swiss Franc to US$ ratio June11/June12, as stated above.

So, if prices are now raised by 7%, this translates into a currency adjusted price rise of about 19.5% in one year :wowzers

There can only be one reason why Rolex does that: like the dog licking his youknowwhat- because they can. Or at least think so.
