on Thursday I finally received a watch I had been hunting for ages, an early, unmolested
Speedy, manufactured in 1969, bought in Spain in 1970, has been in the family ever since.

Nice, all checks out, I love it. Put it on my wrist, can't take my eyes off it all Friday -
and then see something I had not noticed, the watch has a rather rare factory error.

Can you spot it ?

Would it be fair to say that it's a grave mistake Fred?

yes it is. very strange, but confirmed by John Diethelm, the Omega Museum (yes, they do have one) guru, though even he does not know on how many this happened, shows on - at least - one of the Alaska Project prototypes too. interesting.

Tachymetre 220 should be 200 on scale.

Without reading anyone else's post, the 220 on the tachy should be 200.

Edit- you guys are good.

Yea, I spotted that as well. I guess all the time spent staring at reps can pay dividends with gens as well! Congrats on what must be a pretty rare watch Fred.

you are all great spotters !

can you imagine my disbelief when I look at the watch on my wrist all day and finally notice that strange 220 on the bezel ?

up to now I know of three more Speedies with the same bezel, two 145.022 from 1969 like mine and that "Alaska Project" Speedmaster from the Antiquorum auction, quite a strange thing to happen with an industrially mass produced item ....

Also, isn't an accent missing above the first "E" in tachymetre? Mine has it, yours doesn't.

absolutely correct, but this is not a unique factory error by any measure, all Speedmasters "lost" the accent from (afaik) 1969 to 1997 !

It's a Beauty! I spotted it only because you said there was an "error" otherwise I would have never noticed! Enjoy it!

:yeahthat I wouldn't have noticed if you hadn't said there was an error. Great watch, and always good to have something so unique as a factory error like that. Very cool Fred.
