I have bought several bicycle parts from overseas and never paid any duty. I know nothing about buying a watch outside of the U.S. Can anyone tell me how things work if I were to buy a used watch (ebay) and have it shipped from the UK to the US? Not trying to skirt the system, just wondering what sort of additional $$$ I might be looking at as that might sway my bid...the shipping to US is already pretty pricy from the seller so don't want the persue the deal if it does not make sense. Thanks! |

Duty varies depending on the type of product, and it can get pretty complex - I know in Canada there are different duty categories for watches and watch parts and even the number of jewels. I wouldn't rely on it 100%, but this can be useful - http://www.dutycalculator.com/new-impor ... lculation/ |

Roff, Thanks for the quick reply. If it is at all close not much at all on my end assuming I filled it out correctly. Anyone know if it happen to matter which carrier (shipper) is used. I seem to remember reading about UPS/FedEx charging crazy broker fees...would something like that be on the shipper at shipping time? That might explain his rather high shipping cost, if not any idea of what that might add on my end? Seller will only ship FedEx. Sorry for all the newbie questions, just figure this is fairly common place in the watch buyer/seller world. |

Brokerage fees are your responsibility. Can't comment on fees from one US carrier to another, and in my experience it seems to be a 'make it up as you go' approach anyway. |
